Quote:Oh........Alright then If I upload a 128k file. Surely it cant be any better than that quality. Unless Taximusic have this amazing processing engine that actually improves the fidelity of your music!!!!!I know. I'm being silly now.I will assume that they mean the streaming quality is 192. It probably explains why they specify that you do not upload an MP3 with a higher bitrate than that. All I can say about that is that when you go full on with Taximusic to all members, you'll be frying eggs on the servers. If the highest bitrate Taxi will accept is 192k, then that's the rate at which we should compress our songs for submission. Files of a different bitrate may be re-converted by Taxi, which will cause damage to their quality (whether it was at a higher or lower bitrate to start with). Why would you submit anything less than the highest rate possible? Even if you have dial-up internet access (yikes), it's only another hour or so of thumb twiddling while the marginally bigger song file uploads.Andre

One: I didn't really intend my maiden post into this forum to start quite this conflagration. I need to state: I do not satirise boards such as this, the query was a genuine concern which I also directed to Taxi when it became clear no-one here quite knew the new set-up.Two: Taxi has replied to me and I quote, 'cos it's very simple after all:Quote:The streaming rate is 128 (48 for LOW). But the download rate is whatever> you upload your song as. So if you've uploaded at 192, when we (or you)> download it, the rate is 192. Three:My concern was real because this is not clear on the beta hosting page, and my usual operation is to upload, then listen to make sure nothing's gone wrong. In the case of one song, the re-conversion from 192 to the streaming 128 did, indeed, totally muck up the beginning of one song, which is quiet, instrumental, strange patches, and which became so garbled in the conversion from 192 to 128 that I spent a flustered couple of hours desperately remastering then reuploading. Four: for various reasons beyond my control, I have lost broadband for three weeks in the past eight. Andre's comments re upload at the best possible are apt, especially when the broadband falls over.(Sgd) Relieved

Quote:Hey Guys,Just to let you know. Our bit-rate is 192, NOT 128. Just wanted to make that very clear to the members.Quote:Two: Taxi has replied to me and I quote, 'cos it's very simple after all:Quote:The streaming rate is 128 (48 for LOW). But the download rate is whatever> you upload your song as. So if you've uploaded at 192, when we (or you)> download it, the rate is 192. It appears we have conflicting statements from Taxi here. If the download rate is whatever we upload it at, then the 192k number that Taxi mentions above is completely arbitrary. Why not upload at 256k or even 320k if those are options? It's a bummer about the 128k streaming (especially if it's a reconverted stream, which it will be unless we upload at 128k, which we shouldn't), but if we know for sure that Taxi and the listing parties are listening at the higher bitrate, it's not so bad...after all, this service IS for submitting music to Taxi listings, not for sharing music with other Taxi members and friends. I can live with that. I'll continue using Soundclick at 128k (where I perform one compression to get the 128k) and music.download.com and/or Broadjam for 192k sharing/demonstrations etc. Taxi hosting becomes the submissions pool, not the public baths. No problemo. (Am I in the wading pool or in at the deep end? Can I even swim?? only time will tell!!!)

Oh Matto sneaks that stuff in all the time, Prez. Don't let it get to you. The rest of us keep things down in the gutter where they belong.
