Interesting thread. I understand the reasons people dislike it, but we are looking at a business opportunity here. We all have the choice whether or not to submit. Do you feel the same way about all of the tension cues requested here that end up in gory scenes on television that would have been rated R horror content when we were kids but is now acceptable on television? What about music for products that some might find offensive, or for use in comedies where sleeping around is as common as showering? We each have our own lines of tolerance, and I agree that the music industry has played a significant role in the declining values we face today. Sadly, much of the content we are writing for could be considered less than desirable.

Good discussion.

I wan't bothered by it because it clearly referenced satire/spoof/parody. That was why I brought up Road Runner cartoons and old Three Stooges shorts. They are not violent either, but spoof and satirize violence. That's why it's funny when Moe pokes Curly in the eyes and you hear the ukulele pluck sound effects. It's satire.

But Paulie, you do bring up an interesting (and in my opinion) larger issue. Any contract I've signed clearly had me waive any moral rights. So like you said, what we write could end up in a multitude of things we'd rather not. I guess at this point of our careers, we have no say in that since we don't have the clout. If we were huge names in the business, I'm sure we'd have much more negotiating power.

Anyway, good discussion.

I personally am not a fan of rap, especially not of the violent and/or vulgar kind. However, I've read through the thread and find the responses compelling. We certainly don't have to submit to a listing we don't like. But, as a couple other folks have said, we always be sure how an accepted song might be used.
