TAXI # S070131JZ
Just wondering if anyone knows about or has had experience with this genre of listing. It mentions that their target market is for Muzak type applications. What kind of money is likely to be in something like this for the artist? Is it at the bottom of the food chain moneywise? It seems a fair question in light of why we are here.SMOOTH JAZZ INSTRUMENTALS a la Brian Culbertson, Paul Brown, Dave Koz, Najee, the Yellowjackets, etc. are wanted by Music Publisher for placement in Muzak-type applications (shops, restaurants, malls, etc.). Mid-tempo grooves work best -- ballads and uptempos are harder to place. Pieces must use live musicians (or at least sound like it -- a smattering of midi embellishments is OK). They are NOT looking for ethereal new age music. Songs should get right to the point, and be under 4 minutes in length. Broadcast quality needed (great sounding home recordings are OK). Please submit one to three songs per CD/online. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Jan. 31, 2007.TAXI # S070131JZ

Hi HoraceBTW, Did you read my PM? I think Matto would be more qualified than me to answer, but I'm reasonably sure this is it:It's really not much different than any other placement of your master recording for TV, etc. First, there can be an upfront master/sync fee and with libraries/publishers and end users this can vary quite a bit, generally from $0 to $1500 with $500 becoming pretty typical. However, $0 happens too. Second, performance royalties are collected by ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, etc. for the actual broadcasts much in the same way they would be if your song aired on radio. Given the listing party was described as a publisher, I would assume you would have to assign them your publishing for the track and they would earn 50% of every dollar collected. However, the publisher will be better at negotiating that upfront master/sync fee than you would be on your own. They are in business to make money and the parties that go to them generally know they will have to pay something upfront. Casey

Quote:Is it at the bottom of the food chain moneywise?I've done my share of "bottom of the food chain moneywise" projects and looking back I'm amazed at how much of a part they played in getting bigger and better projects. I submitted for a couple of these outside of Taxi just the other day as a matter of fact. Maybe they aren't much value financially in and of themselves but I've found them to be a good experience and usually stepping stones to better things.
