Sorry if I sound ungracious to you, Cam. I was responding to a guy who says he's listened to my "stuff" and dismissed it as uninteresting.I seriously doubt that he has heard more than a few of my tunes. When someone says that to you, remember to be gracious. All I said was, rejoice, now you don't have to bother with it anymore.Wig [/quote]

I've had forwards from Taxi that I couldn't place anywhere on my own. I've had returns that I've signed to what I believe may be the same company for which I was returned. I have a few songs that are making me some decent dough that were not only Taxi returns but the only place I could park them was in an online "catalog" that accepts everybody and anybody! Nobody wanted them but yet there making a little money! It's always great WHEN you know someone but you've got to make the connection somehow. I'm signed to a couple of companies that will contact me now for specific projects they think I'm "right" for but I had to make these connections by just going out on a limb and submitting to them cold. . . more than once too! and these are good companies, good reputations and plenty of good placements.Taxi has listing parties that I could ever get "in" with on my own & I know that. And even though I may not re-new I'm giving it my best shot until my membership runs out.I guess my point is that you really can't count on anything in this crazy f-ing business and you have to do everything you can if you want to make any money or get any recognition at all. Buy some music marketing books, use google, do some research. Send your music out to anyone who will listen. If someone takes it great! If not try to find out if there's something you can do to make your music acceptable to them, and remember that maybe this whole crazy trip might just really be about the journey ( I don't know if I actually believe that but it helps to repeat it sometimes!)That's good advice, Bill,I just hate the biz side of the biz. The more I biz, the less creative I feel. I wish there were a way to get an agent who would take like half the proceeds from my work. That would be fine with me. It's never been about the money for me. It's about the exposure. Putting a smile on some faces. I'd like to know more about the online catalog you mentioned. Unless, of course, they want money for you to park your songs there. But even then, I might consider it.Any direction you can steer my way will be greatly appreciated.I submitted a song for $20.00 on Broadjam for an indie film. I've never heard a word back from them and don't really expect to. There isn't a way to actually talk to a human there that I have found, so I guess I'll just chalk that up to another lesson.Heck, I give my music away to anyone who wants it. I have to draw the line at paying someone to take it. Thanks for responding. Good luck with your tunes. You're a really talented guy and deserve some good exposure for all your hard work.Wig

This is a new mix of the song. Same link as the top. Piano and guitar were added. Hope you can enjoy it and get over the title.http://www.soundclick.com/util/getplaye ... 32&q=hiWig

Ditto, it's been a great experience, if not a successful one ...Peace, Geo

A great piece of advice to me recently is my new mantra."Amateur songwriters write what they want to hear."Professional songwriters write what other people want to hear."Plain and simple, it sucks but thats how it is. It has nothing to do with originality or sounding like someone, its all about having the right sounding piece of music for that exact moment in time. The a'la's are just reference points. Your a really talented writer and I think you have a great vision for music. Id say that you also have the ego to go with it. I dont mean that in a bad way, we have to have some ego to survive the scrutiny we receive. I think your ego is getting in the way of your objectivity about your songs. I have had the same problem and its taken me a year to realize that. Im sorry youre so cynical about the whole TAXI thing. Ive been there but Im also learning and getting experience I would not have gotten without joing TAXI. Youll find a place for your songs. There are dozens of Indie labels out there. Try some cold calls like BillG said. It might very well be worth your while.MattThanks for the advice, Matt. I was kind of hoping you would voice an opinion about the song or the mix.I wouldn't make a big deal about this TAXI thing that you refer to. It's not a big deal to me anymore. I was hoping TAXI would make a connection for me to be a writer. That's what I do, write songs. Now, if I were an artist, I might have more luck with TAXI. I don't plan on renewing my membership, but only because TAXI is not for me. As a writer, (not a performing artist anymore) I will just park my songs in libraries in three or four genres. The point being that I forgot that priceless advice that I was given in college 30 years ago. That is: "When someone asks you for money, run the other way."I think it's enough for the library to get half the proceeds of your work. When someone asks you for money to expose you to the library, you might want to think better about it. That's just my opinion.Alternative country is not a genre that I write in usually, I just played around with Taxi Whore to experiment. I'm sorry people can't get by the bitterness in the lyrics. Funny, when Alanis Morriset sings bitter lyrics, people don't get all bent out of shape about it. But the song does need a bridge. I may still share my work with this forum, but I share my work on a half dozen forums. I think I just won Song of the Month over at SongRamp. That's quite an honor. I'm sure I'll see you around. Good luck with your music.Wig

Just my opinion, but I am a little tired of your ongoing "digs" about the TAXI business model, especially in light of the fact the same model is working for me and many others on this Forum.Again, just my opinion, it's becoming a little insulting and continues to demonstrate to me that your have some studying to do about how the business really works.Chuck
