Terminology question

Post by arkjack » Thu Apr 19, 2007 9:14 am

In Nashville, when a lead says that artist ABC has been working on the next album and has already "tracked 4 songs" or "cut 6 sides" what exactly are they referring to? Maybe Larry B. can shed some light on the lingo as its used ..... what state is a track in as opposed to a side thats been cut?ArKJack

Quote:In Nashville, when a lead says that artist ABC has been working on the next album and has already tracked 4 songsI think means they've probably recorded drums, bass guitar, rythm guitar, maybe piano & other keyboards. Maybe the vocals and other overdubs are done as well. It just means the recorded bits they're going to use in the mix, have been gathered. They aren't mixed into a stereo file yet.Quote:or cut 6 sidesis an old term from the days of cutting 45 rpm records. A record had 2 sides. 6 sides meant you had six songs (or 3 x 45's) mixed and ready to press. of course correct me if I'm wrong, I'm used to it
