The Ballad of King Kong (Rock) New Mix 2*
Hi Guys... Had this one up a little while ago...Tweaked piano and guitars... added a lame solo ... All comments welcomed.... mix, arrangement, lyrics, my singing , etc...Peace, GeoComments below, this is the listing I have this and Superstar on... there is a third which I hope to get to remixing before the review.....POP/PUNK SONGS in the range of Blink-182, Fall Out Boy, Sum 41, Simple Plan, Paramore, Good Charlotte, All Time Low, Yellowcard, Sugarcult, Le Tigre, etc. are wanted by a successful Music Publisher based in L.A. who has secured tons of Film/TV placements for many TAXI members. Songs with vocals only and be sure the tunes are original - no covers, please. These songs should sound current, exciting, edgy and hip. Lyrics should be universal enough as to apply to many different scenarios/characters/imagery. Solid performances are a must and recordings need to be Broadcast Quality (great home recordings should be fine). They offer a non-exclusive, 50/50 split deal - you keep your original copyrights. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than January 7, 2009. Re: The Ballad of King Kong (Rock)
Hi GeoA lot of fun! I remember hearing this before... I could see this done in the style of a punk band-- The Clash, etc...I really like the King Kong/Faye thing... In fact I could see writing a whole song around that idea. (Can I steal it?) That makes me wonder if (a completely different thing-- not what you had in mind) you got rid of the whole 'label' thing and focused on that, would you have something even better. What is your goal for the song? Based on that you can mold it both subject-wise and production-wise. One thing I learned from some recent feedback on one of my tracks is-- whatever direction you go, you pretty much have to go all the way with consistency-- lyrics, music, production, arrangement, etc all have to match a target. (Assuming film/TV here)... I know you've already made some lyric changes here to that regard.I'd drop the bong thing. A drug reference can only hurt a song's chances and I'm sure there are other clever lines that can work there.Geo-- I'm hearing some really good songs from you. It would be great if you could hook up with the right collaborator to produce your songs as authentic to a target style. I know you can't afford expensive demo services... And this is not a putdown to your performance which isn't bad. (You'll hear ME on that other thread!! Yuk!!) ... But, as you know, to get to that broadcast quality thing (performance, production, engineering et al), there is a leap... I've been lucky that I've been able to hire some killer demo producers who make my songs shine as good as possible. I'd love to hear someone take this and make it The Clash or Sex Pistols all the way!Best! Casey

hi geo--damn straight i remember this....but don't remember the vocal starting out so low (or the slight struggle i hear with the low notes...) of course it's been awhile....did you resing this to be more punk? if so, success...if not...don't know, though i don't have it "next" to me, i'd say i like the "old" version better vocally--but again, its been awhile...still a very good tune, say hi to faye!!all the best, warren

Yeah last time it was done more like The Clash in the verses.... this version has the original verses and the chorus from that version.....Quote:I really like the King Kong/Faye thing... (Assuming film/TV here)... I know you've already made some lyric changes here to that regard.I know I should be approaching it that way but don't really have the chops to do that it so my strategy is to try to write really good lyrics/strong hooks and hope that gets the songs noticed/forwarded.... film/TV is my main submission area but have slowed down my submitting, using them as "Not-So-Custom Critiques" Quote:I'd drop the bong thing. I value your opinion.... to be honest I've been self conscious about seeking out collaborations because of my lack of expertise/chops but would be excited try it... think I post something in The Corner!!Peace, Geo

Re: The Ballad of King Kong (Rock) New Mix
Geo,I never heard the earlier version, so this is my first listen. Definitely has a punk feel and man, that verse starts down there way low!The guitars--especially on the right side--sound a little harsh to me. You'll probably have to do some EQ work there.Lyrically, clever as always (that's your specialty, right?). I'd consider renaming this "A Love Song," as those words get way more real estate in the chorus than "King Kong." And it'd be an ironic title. If you hang with the "King Kong" title/theme, you might have to put in more references to the beast--Empire State Building, airplanes attacking, etc., not sure...hairy body?Vince

GeoProduction is much better and the add on's really add a lot of depth. Is that Mike in harmony mode? You have definitely proven this is always room for more improvement:)I don't think anyone else should sing this. You bring along a lot of personality. (How I feel about Cam's work too)Paul

Thanks Vince... I tweaked the EQ and lowered the guits back into the mix.... I swapped out the 1st verse with one sung higher I think is better... These last two were in on a punk/pop listing I will add above... I rarely bother posting the subs I'm trying cause I don't try to match the ala's but more choose songs which I think fall somewhere close while realizing my style of writing is not always true to the ala's.The original title is Love Song #1 (now the alt. title) but will swap the order back around...Thanks for the listen!!Peace, Geo

Mike layed down the harmonies.... he tried the lead but I think this one will be mine .... kinda nervous about getting ripped for even submitting it with that vocal but it's only $5... I say that way too much!!Peace, Geo
