The Gauge Microphone Story

Post by mojobone » Mon Oct 17, 2016 1:54 am

For those interested, (and that should be just about everybody) Rob Chiarelli and Chandler Bridges are interviewed in this month's TapeOp. (online bonus content) Here's the link: http://tapeop.com/interviews/btg/115/ro ... r-bridges/

The content is for subscribers, but subscription is free for a signup, and for a bonus you get great info and inspiration in your mailbox every other month, and for a nominal fee, you can access their archives, which include just about everything they've ever published, save for the letters to TapeOp, so...I still keep a stack of old issues next to the er, throne.

I own three Gauge mics; they're my studio workhorses and they're an almost unbelievable value, and y'all know how much I like value, LOL. If you see Rob or Chandler at the Rally, say, "Hi!" for me.

Thanks for that, joined Tape Op too.

I got an ECM 87 for $100 Aus from a gear hire company that was closing down a few years ago. The owner said they were used in lots of different situations. Live to air concerts of the state symphony orchestra in front of individual and group instruments to name a few.

I would love to be setting up a studio from scratch now. I"d have all their mics and the One Channel.

As far as I'm aware, there's not an LDC under $200 USD that even comes close to the ECM87 for quality, versatility and reliability, and it's priced well south of that. There are a couple of cheaper options than Gauge's ECM84 stereo kit, but no contenders in the under $200USD price range come with shockmounts, a stereo bar and a pair of omni capsules.
