Re: The impossibility of perfection
Perfection can only be obtained by computer generated or electronic music. And who wants it?

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

Re: The impossibility of perfection
I agree with both Mazz and tt. Electronica, well-created, is absolutely pain-staking (I'm still bleeding from a session last night) and quite frankly, isn't my idea of perfection unless it's gotten the emotional impact across. It might sound error-free but if it doesn't reach its goal, that's a huge ol error right there, lol.My idea of perfection can sometimes be a less-than-perfect rendition of a song done on a guitar sung by someone who maybe didn't quite make all the notes. If the audience is in tears (or whatever other appropriate-to-the-moment sign), it's perfect to me. As a listener. Not as a producer or a singer though. LOL

That's what I was gonna say...Perfection can be found in someone elses work, never your own.

Re: The impossibility of perfection
You can't be perfect in every aspect of film or TV, because EVERY single situation is looking for something different.I just scored a film recently with library music and it's VERY hard to use a 2-3 or even 7 minute song more than once in a film, because the sections are not right. So I ended up using almost 90 different library tracks (SEVERAL were cut up and used more than once) in this film! As much as I wanted to save money on using the tracks I had, it wasn't "perfect" enough and I had to use others. Some were great, and others I thought sucked at the time. That doesn't mean they're not well-done, good music, or outstanding cues for other projects. They just sucked for what I was working on! Perfection will never be attained - EVER. I read an article that John Williams was replaced in post production of the last Indiana Jones movie (he did all the others!) and was replaced by Steven Spielberg because SS wasn't happy with the score....John Williams was REPLACED. And he did the other Indy movies...lol, I'm sorry but that's a great example of someone that's GREAT at what they do being rejected after being "perfect" for other projects. Something to think about.
