This song is about a snapping turtle my daughter found by the road.
Many years passed by, he plodded on.
A true survivor, a loner on his own.
Knows nothing of fame.
Had not even a name.
Getting by the only aim.
Until the arrival of one tragic day, the worst day of his life.
His journey impeded, a solution required. Now faced with strife.
An unwelcome impass with only one chance.
The odds very small to make it past.
Obstructed by those with slight of sense.
no courtesy disclosed, no concern for the residents.
Knows nothing of fame.
Had not even a name.
Getting by his only aim.
He swiftly was hit, at once cast aside.
Left in a heap. Alone by the drive.
Left he was with no way, no way to survive.
He didn’t lay down, no, he tried to go on.
He soldiered on, determined, staying alive.
His wounds, too much, His spirit has Gone.
Knows nothing of fame.
Had not even a name.
Getting by his only aim.
Now he’s at rest, I look back and admire.
Were he here now my spirits (outlook?) higher.
Shame he couldn’t know he would be missed.
Wish he were here, not on the list.

Re: The list
Although it's a tragic tale and I can't actually imagine it as a song, it's very well written.
Like the lines "Knows nothing of fame, Had not even a name"
Best, Roger
