I'm no fan of Bond, but 'Nobody does it better' is surely a great song in any list - I don't mind who knows I gave it a second vote!!

Quote:BA-da-da-DA-da-da-da---BA-da-da-DA-da-da-da---BA-da-Dyaaaa!" with all the french horns and brass? That gets my vote!Good rendition Ern! That was first used in Dr. No, so get voting! That tune really has stood the test of time. It's been used in every "official" Bond film. Did they ever prove who wrote it?Don't know whether it's because they've returned to the roots with the films, or the latest themes are so weak, but they've used that tune for the end credits in the last two films."Nobody does it better" was another close one for me,but I went for "All Time High" 'cause of it's melody and structure. But there are so many good ones. It's like trying to pick your favourite Beatles song.I agree Louis; David Arnold is really just re-hashing the John Barry formula. It would be great if Barry did return. The producers may have to ask him, to get the films back on track (pun intended). And no, I didn't like the "Die Another Day" theme either. In fact, for the first half of that film, I thought it promised to be one of the best Bond movies; then Halle Berry appeared, and ruined it for me.
I put the kettle on, it didn't suit me.

Re: The music just doesn't Bond!
Cool thread!So... I had to vote for Dr. No, though a close second is the World is Not Enough... as I usually sing that melody when saying any and all of the bond movies -- usually screeching it. And yes, it's quite annoying... unless you've had a couple of martinis. I'll second Louis up at the top... I liked the QOS theme song (didn't love it though), but the movie bombed for me... it was too much like a Bourne film, not Bond! I don't blame the actors though, as Craig is a cool Bond... but I will point to the director and director of photography on this one. The "shaky cam" thing going on in modern action films has got to be limited more!

Could it be a coincidence that things started to sliparound the time Cubby Broccoli died in 1997?Another thought; it always seemed to me thatElton John/Bernie Taupin would have written something exceptional in their early days. And Davey Johnstone would have come up with some ripping Bond guitar licks!

Well, I voted for Casino Royal, I really liked it, the tension and his voice, I didn't like the new one with Alicia Keys, never liked her at all. Live and let die is a really great song, but I've heard it one time too many. That song is composed by Paul McCartney if I'm not wrong and performed with the wings? John Barry isn't involved it that one?

I've also learned that the "main" theme in Bond is stolen. Apparently they had an original composer that did the piece, but the producers didn't like it so they hired another composer that just made some changes to the original theme, like speed up the tempo, and..Bingo! There's still dispute today with lawyers and so on. I liked Golden Eye as well.

Yeah, Monty Norman was credited with writing the Bond theme, and has been receiving royalties since 1962.John Barry arranged it for Dr. No, and apparently claimed he had written it, but courts twice ruled in Norman's favour.Incidentally, the guitarist on the Bond theme was VIC FLICK.What a great name!

"hairband" name! ---- Is his guitar a Telecaster going through some BIG early Fender amp with tremolo? What a great sound! Just wondering --- I owned a silver-face Fender Dual Showman at one time that sounded like that, with 2x15" JBL speakers, but it didn't have a tremolo circuit in it, or reverb. HUGE sounding amp, though. I think they had it conservatively rated at 85 watts. Sounded TWICE that! --- I once recorded a rhythm guitar part with it CRANKED, and it was still ALMOST clean! Woo Hoo! My old neighbor lady across the way phoned me because I was disturbing her husband's afternoon nap. Oh, we "bonded" that day! Ern
