Re: The REAL DEAL!!!
Hi GerrelThere's another aspect that no-one's mentioned. Statistical! (all non-nerdish may now leave the room). How many myspace music sites are there now? must be a couple of million. And how many who weren't ALREADY "real-deal" have become real-dealers in the couple of years since myspace exploded? A handful.OK. A handful out of a million. Now I'm DAM'sure Taxi has nothing like a million members (!) ("I wish!!!!" cries Michael). Not even a couple of hundred thousand. A few thousand, yes. On the odds of a handful out of a million or two, I would be really surprised if Taxi HAD produced one "real-deal"er in the last five years. On the same basis, if TAXI continues for a few more years, yes, odds are we'd see one or two (indeed Vikki Hummingbird has pointed to one, or at least a three-quarter). But I don't know that the real-deal is actually around anymore. I know that one thing _I_ wouldn't invest in is conventional old-style music industry. CD sales are in free fall. The 1970s-style superstar will die with the 1970s susperstars. MP3.com might have gone, but its echoes are taking the old industry with it. In this new and evolving scene, Taxi has a very nice place for those who need to learn how to dip into the new riches on offer, and a way to help us to do so Tim

I am thinking like this: Why try to become a world famous artist these days when everyone download your songs illegal and doesn't pay anything? Of course, if you succeed to pitch a song to, say, Universal they will probably pay you some good money. For me it's TV/Movie/video games, then I know that I will get what I should. Then people can download it (they probably will anyway). And if you start there and get some deals, there's no telling what will come of that. Maybe you will improve your writing skills and make some hits? Taxi also mentioned that getting your music into the movie business is easier then getting a hit right a way. (it's not easy anything, but a little more easy in the movies anyway..). You also wrote something about a growing fan base etcetera.. This is more an artist/band type of thing with composition skills. There are many listings that just want HIT songs, and not you as an artist. Send in your songs and take the critique (if it's constructive), then improve your songs.

Re: The REAL DEAL!!!
Finally someone who understands were I am coming from! You and Orest hit it on the nail! The biz is in trouble because of pirates! So even if you are great and have a hit song! They may not be willing to invest because it takes money. Now it seems that Internet songs are becoming the new thing as Orest has said and you have said. Selling down loadable music may be whats coming up now. Beyonce sold % million downloads on Itune at about 4 dollars a pop! That adds up. And from what i am hearing. There is a new Internet label about to start that supposedly have a new aspect and approach to selling music. Soon thats how we will be getting music. Not from the stores. But on-line!! If taxi was to have there own label set up with there selective members songs on them for downloading! They would make a killing! There would be no need to submit to other labels because if a song gets rejected and they still like them they can do plan B.....And out you on THERE Internet label! I don't know! % million downloads is looking real good right now!God BlessGer-relAug 20, 2008, 1:33am, flyingtadpole wrote:Hi GerrelThere's another aspect that no-one's mentioned. Statistical! Re: The REAL DEAL!!!
I am a Taxi newbie, so perhaps I'm mistaken, but didn't CROSSFADE get a major deal through Taxi, and then present Michael Laskow with their Gold record?? I know I've heard at least two of their songs on modern rock stations before. So wouldn't that be a prime example of a "major" deal through Taxi?http://www.taxi.com/transmitter/0505/he ... mlActually, it says the pic is of them presenting him with their Gold record, but later they came back and gave him their Platinum record!I'm an aspiring TV/Film guy myself, but I remember this band, because I liked their songs.
