Well, she pecked me softly on the forehead
When I left for work that night
As I started drivin’ up the coastline
The shore felt kisses from the tide

Then I heard the distant thunder echo
And the wind cut through the mist
And then storm clouds filled the skies,
All the ocean’s vows were lies
Cos the sea betrayed the sand with a kiss

Well, the coastline road ahead was flooded
So I had to turn around
When I pulled up in my cliff house driveway
I was shocked at what I found

Lightning flashes on our bedroom window
Showed a secret midnight tryst
So I drove off in the dark,
Cos she’d double-crossed my heart
Like the sea betrayed the sand with a kiss

O my love was always stable
But hers would not stay still
And the waves of her desire
Flow where ever they will

Now, there’s nights I sit beside the ocean
And I watch its restlessness
I tell my story to the sand,
And the shoreline understands
