Thinking of joining but....
...like a few other here I'm still a bit hesitant to join. Actually we will be joining but is now the time? We have a few songs written although we think they currently lack the polish for a TAXI submission. That is to say that our submissions will be re-mixed prior to sending to TAXI. If you have a moment, please have a listen to our tunes and let me know if we are up for TAXI yet. Ideally we would like to get our music to a point where it can be submitted prior to joining so that we can utilize our subscription to the fullest.I realize that I'm a new member to this forum and I'm already asking for critiques which may not go over well with some of you but we are really at a crossroads here and need to hear some comments. Is there any hope of having any of our songs forwarded? Is it worth investing more time into our existing tracks or should we scrap them and try and write something else? As you can see by these questions we are a bit lost for direction. You can hear us at www.myspace.com/iceboxxcdn or for the complete concept CD you will have to head over to www.guitaristworks.com/Ice_BoxxThanks in advance.

Seems to me that your indecision is the answer to the question you pose.If you want forwards make the best demos you can afford until you are well enough known that you can take in a Raw demo to your best contact..JMOJ

Re: Thinking of joining but....
I've just signed up for my third year (God that makes it sound like the draft). If you're unsure of joining, you need to weigh-up what you hope to get from taxi.A record deal? Library placements? TV/film placements?Once you're more focused you can approach the question better. To get record deals I would say you have to be more than just good, you need to be exceptional and taxi should be nothing more than an addition to what every band should already be doing.Think of the cost of joining taxi, and the additional cost each month of submitting songs, as a kind of folly. A slightly expensive hobby and don't expect too much. When I first joined I was submitting to almost everything going and getting nowhere. Now I'm a bit more frugal (though it took me a year of throwing mud at the wall to see what stuck).I'm not a success story but I like to think that I'm at least approaching it in a health way and not deluding myself.I listened to some tracks and I'd say some of it would certainly be submitted for some recent listings for sports ads etc.. but is that what you want?In the end, if you don't join then you are missing out on all the potential opportunities that taxi brings your way.

My taxi experience has been a lot like what 53mph mentions. The points he makes are valid. I've recently quit submitting to every listing that remotely looked like an opportunity. I'm about to start writing & recording more stuff based on exactly what the listings are looking for, instead of trying to re-work the things i've already finished. You're not breaking any forum rules by asking for opinions before you join, as far as I can tell. If you're a Broadjam/Myspace/Soundclik... member, get used to reviewing other people's music, in depth. That could teach you a lot about your competition's quality. The reviews you get back will inevitably point out other stuff about your music, worth paying attention to. steve
