This little light of mine...

Post by ddusty » Thu Nov 29, 2007 10:20 am

Would you bother submitting this? This is a song that was recorded a year ago. It is not an out and out cover of the song, well, not until the [edit]chorus bridge. Here is the listing:A West Coast-based Music Publisher/Label needs great versions of the Public Domain/traditional hymn "THIS LITTLE LIGHT OF MINE" for inclusion on their newest compilation CD (sold via iTunes and CD Baby) as well as for pitching to film & TV projects (that’s their specialty). Style-wise, here's what they're seeking in their own words: "Pop/rock/traditional-with-a-little-art-in-it styles. No country. No stone R&B. No Heavy Metal. More MOR (Middle Of The Road) pop/rock/acoustic-alternative. Interpretations are welcome, but the listener expects to be comfortable with the version." Male or female vocals are OK and great performances are essential.....Here is the song:("Let it Shine")http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... tream=true

I'm having a hard time recalling what the heck else was in the original tune except for the chorus. If most folks are like me then you've got the most important element . . . and it sounds great! Since it's for tv/film chances are that there would be enough length in a chorus-solo-chorus edit to fill almost any need they'd probably have. I think you ought to submit it, I would if it were mine.

Thanks bill, although i misspoke (misstype?) in my previous post, it's only the bridge that is the original song.that's why i am reluctant to send it in.

Dude, I don't know if it is what the Listing is looking for, but it IS what my ears are looking for! Sweet performance and excellent production values. Nice work and thanks!

Interesting interpretation - wasn't sure it was the same song at the beginning. Beautiful vocals, good playing, I'd definitely give it a shot. SOunds great to me.H

thanks everyoneVikki, that's the kicker, it's not really the same song. it was inspired by This little light of mine, which is why we do the original version in the bridge. Not sure if they are only looking for PD songs, this one technically is not. Going away for the weekend, i have until tuesday to decide. I think I'll submit it for fun.Rob(PS - Rebekah was very excited to have her vocals complimented by someone with your credentials!)
