Three short Overdrive guitar pieces for listenning

Post by donnypike » Mon Apr 09, 2007 12:20 pm

Hi! And welcome to another "Homeless Production" of a zero budget presentation of three short overdrive guitar songs for your input. The first song is "The Highland Chase" I wrote this yesterday as something with a little less orchestration and a bit of a groove. I would have preferred using a mandolin font but the acoustic guitar does ok."Slip Away" is a blending of two different worlds of music. "Cross Roads" uses instrumentation not normally heard together for an interesting sound. Try to hear with your minds eye what it could sound like with real players or some good MIDI equipment. Just take the link in my signature at the bottom and when you get to my web site's startup page click on the taxiguys download zip. Thats all for today folks but don't miss next months story"Will it be Success or Will it be The Shopping Cart". ThanksDonny Pike

Hiya Donny.I had a listen to all three. The pick of the three for me was "The highland chase". The other two didn't seem to go anywhere for me. However. "The highland chase" could be turned into something quite moving. I'm imagining a fiddle or violin in bits (perhaps in place of the keyboard sound) to give it that highland feel. Maybe a passing bagpipe too Och aye the noo.

Thanks for the listen and comments Jeffe. A lot more time was spent on the other two pieces but sometimes you just can,t make a silk purse out of a sows ear. I only have six tracks on The Highland Chase so there is room for experimentation, I'll bring it back at another time after I try some of your suggestions. Have a great day.Donny

I have uploaded a revised version of "The Highland Chase" and have changed the title to "The Highland Way". I have remixed and added a reed organ to add some atmosphere. Tell me if you like the changes. I still can't find a good mandolin font. The three songs in the original post have been replaced by my update. press the link in my signature at the bottom, click on taxi download zip file on my startup page. It's short..2:39Donny Pike

Hi Donny,Sorry to hear about your housing situation, good luck with that.As far as your piece goes, this is one of the best sounding of the ones I've listened to. The thing that doesn't work for me is the arpeggiated line. I think that is what your are calling your mandolin part but I'm not sure. If it was mixed much lower and was eq'ed to be much less bright (or taken out altogether), I think the song would be much improved. The sound of the patch makes the part sound very mechanical which, to me, wrecks the vibe of your piece. I'd like to hear a mix without that track at all just to see if the song still works. Alternatively, try a completely different sound, maybe the part isn't really a mandolin part.Good luck, keep writing!Mazz

Thanks Mazz, I have made some changes and just uploaded a new revision to my site. I fixed the percussion and the guitar is still there but it is a little further back now.

Hi Mazz, I tried some of your suggestions and uploaded a new taxi zip to my website. Have a listen and tell me if this is more like what you wanted to hear. Mazz update 4-15-07
