Congrats John, it's fun spending money on gear, way more fun when you know what you're buying is what you need. Excellent that your buddy got the commission on it. That will probably help your relationship with that guy, for the next time you need to go & see him. 'Cause you will... aaahh gear lust

Re: tomorrow I drop the dime..
ya Steve..I swore i'd NEVER become a gear head..but..Hi..my name's john and i'm a gearhead and it was a freakin pleasure to buy that stuff through the drummer i'm currently working with..I just met this guy through a classified {drummer needed for recording} and not only did he do a fantastic job..we were also able to work the songs out @ his place..he had no problem signing a release {he got a percentage of course} and he's in his mid 20's and pimps himself out as a session drummer..teaches drums..and has had a few near misses @ stardom..one that comes to mind is a near miss as a touring drummer with NIN..not bad for someone his age..he also has endorsements and is regularly featured in drummers mags..and after all that he's a no ego type of nice guy..So when I knew I was buying this stuff, I called him and asked him if I could buy through him..wasn't sure because he works in the drum dept..but he said it wasn't a problem..always nice to return a favor..and we made loose plans to do some more recording..which is nice..I NOW need to get my ass motivated to start recording..I did everything BUT today..hooked everything up, changed strings, neatly wrapped all excess cords, read the manuals, dug up a bunch of songs from 10+ years ago that i'm pleasantly surprised with..and instead of recording i'm drinking wine, typing on a message board and listening to the Stylistics..gotta get motivated..later..john

telaak,Don't worry. Those are all good preparation moves, before you dive in there. Once you get goin', you won't know when to stop. ibanez

Re: tomorrow I drop the dime..
well I finally "got going" and I have to say the korg is REALLY user friendly..it's setup a bit different than it's little brother {D8} but quite easy to figure out..i'll probably have something finished by weeks end..the preamps suck like the D8 though..a preamp in btwn your mic or instrument and the machine is worth the investment...john

Check out Smart Loops. They have a variety of loops in different styles, and some pretty decent freebie drum stuff.

Re: tomorrow I drop the dime..
i'll check that OG..thanks..for the first song I started I actually created my own "loop" by taking a drum pattern from a machine and layering some things over the top..shakers etc..I also had a session drummer lay down a bunch of tracks for an outside studio project i'm working on..was thinking of making some loops out of those as well..but that's down the road..I gotta check with him if it's cool as well..but an idea john
