I listened again. The song is in the key of D. It's a D7sus4 chord.

Re: trying to figure out a chord with notes of C G D
My understanding that sus2 or sus4 means you replace (or temporarily suspend) the 3 of the chord with either the 2 or the 4; if ADDING the 2 or 4, you would have the chord name and (add4), e.g.mickanos wrote:I stand totally corrected, I was just checking one of my chord theory books and yeh, What if you wanted to include the third in a sus2 or sus4 chord, what would it be called then?
Cmi sus2? or Cmaj sus2?
Csus2 = C D G (no 3)
Csus4 = C F G (no 3)
C(add2) = C D E G
C (add4) = C E F G
There is a lot of inconsistency in music and chord notation, but I think the basic gist is that a Suspended note (e.g. Sus2 or Sus4) replaces the 3 of a chord (so you can't tell if the chord is major or minor), whereas a 2 or 4 added to a major or minor chord would more accurately be called C(add2) or Cm(add2) or C(add4) -- or C(add11) or Cm (add4) or Cm(add11).

P.S. And I agree that the mystery chord is D7sus4

Sue's right; if the third (major or minor) is included, it's plus 2 or 4.

Oops. The upload function doesn't seem to be working. Any idea how I can upload my .PDF file to share here?
Well, meanwhile, if you go to my factsheets page, you can download it (it's No. 8):

. . . and another one explaining 7, 9, 11, and 13 chords:
