Turn this one up -- Uptempo Country "Ordinary Man"

Post by perrysmith » Thu Oct 30, 2008 10:27 am

A few of you may remember an earlier version of this song from many months ago. I reworked the entire structure and overhauled the lyric (based in part on comments here, thanks). If you don't turn it up for the whole song--turn it up for the bridge, breakdown and final chorus Hope you like it. BTW, suggestions are always welcome -- as someone around here says, the song ain't done til it's cut. -PerryListen at:www.perrysmith.com or www.myspace.com/perrysmithmusicOrdinary Man - © 2008 Perry Smith My faded jeans didn’t come with these holesThese work boots got a good two years to goThis watch I’m wearin’ was my grandpa Joe’sYeah, I ain’t no New York fashion show (Verse 2)Magazines tell me what I should wear What car to drive and how to style my hair Do what they say and the ladies will stare But they don’t understand that I don’t care (Pre-Chorus) What they think of me Is none of my business As you can see I’m doin’ just fine, cuz(Chorus)I’m just an ordinary man Doin’ what I can To get by in this ordinary life That I love And I know exactly who I am Just your average guyWho loves God, my country and my wifeJust an ordinary man(Verse 3) I don’t care if I never travel the globeI’m not a fan of Monet or Van GoghGood friends, time off and shootin’ the bullYeah, that’s the kind of thing that soothes my soul(Pre-Chorus 2)I’m not the kind To try to impress youI don’t have timeToo much livin’ to do cuz(Repeat Chorus) (Bridge)Don’t get me wrongI’m not sayin’ my way should be your wayBe who you want to beBut as for meBreakdown and chorus out

Hey Perry!Another good one man. Good verse setup, great hook and melody. The harmonies are really sweet.I really dig the bridge. You always seem to come up with that knockout bridge. Thats the hardest part for me.Is this a GC production? It seems that the vocals are just a bit too much in the mix. Funny I should say that since Ive been hammered this week about my vocal mix.It just isnt quite the same sound Ive heard GC do for your stuff.Great Country/rock feel. Very catchy and is definately right up there with all of today's hits. You should do this for a living!!!! Hell teach a class. Id pay to attend.Great job my friend you have an excellent writing style.M~

Hey, thanks, Matt. That's real nice to hear. Yeah, GC did it. He rushed it a bit for me because I was trying to get it done for a listing, so we may take another look at the mix. But I gotta tell ya--Gary is the man and I hear it time and time again from pro reviewers -- "great demo". If you use him, tell him I sent you--just a class guy to work with. But thanks again, Matt, really appreciate it. You probably know this, as I have said it before, but I am not trained on any instrument and can't sing, but I know six or seven chords on the guitar and piano and I jsut go with what sounds good to me and when it comes to the bridge, I just change it up a bit and see what I land on. I am a real fan of the breakdown and build to the final chorus, also--really adds energy to the song. Gary just does an amazing job understanding what I am looking for.

we have been considering using GC for awhile now. Ive heard several demo productions from many different studios and I really like his work. And its very affordable. Ive been in contact with him but have waited to give him anything. We are almost ready with a couple of songs. Ill tell him you sent me maybe youll get a discount on your next one.

He won't give me anything and I don't want him to, as he works pretty hard for what he makes on these things, but I do like him to know that I am a big fan and I try to get the word out. Let me know how things go if you use him. -P

hey, P, i have to say i really like this. great melody, of course, and the lyrics are nothin' i could complain about (which i'm sure is a different stance that what i took on the original, although i don't remember what the initial lyrics were. ) and while i'm sitting here typing, "The Song I Didn't Write" is playing, and i really like this one, a whole lot. excellent job, Perry - i'm really excited for you! good luck with these!erin
