Unauthorized Samples

Post by MBantle » Sun Feb 09, 2025 11:56 am

Hi everyone! After rejoining Taxi following a break, I wanted to quickly check if anything has changed regarding the topic of 'unauthorized samples.'

The last I knew was that melodic or otherwise unique Splice/Loopcloud (etc.) sounds shouldn't be used (basically the 'Shazam argument'). On the other hand, there generally shouldn't be issues with percussion one-shots, shaker loops, etc. from these sites.

Is that still the current understanding, or have there been updates to the 'best practices'?

Thanks in advance for your input. Cheers, Matt

As you said, melodic loops (e.g. synth hooks, vocal phrases, melodic loops) can be recognized by systems like Shazam if used in their original form. This can cause problems when submitting to Taxi or music publishers.
