US Copyright Search
Have any of you ever search the US Copyright Office for the owner of a song? I trying to find the composer and author for a song I learned as a child I think It's a hymn. The name of it is "His Banner Over Me Is Love" there are quite a few versions and I can't find the one I know. I found this website that has it http://www.hymnal.net/hymn.php?t=h&n=1157 but they don't have the owner. I contacted them and they said they can't help. Can any of you assist? I'm searching the US Copyright and found quite a few but don't know if it's the version I'm looking for.

Oh thank you guys for helping. Suz that's the wrong lyrics though. If you check the link I posted it should have the lyrics and melody of the one I'm looking for. I'll still check the link you sent. Thanks

Re: US Copyright Search
Each of the PROs have engines for searching too, but my access from Canada is limited. Music supervisors at the different Libraries have some better access...I've had them contact me about writer's credit on some obscure tracks my father released...took them 5 seconds to tell me all the details of the song...I was amazed! As usual, I might not know what I'm talking about, of course. I don't have any direct ways of checking for you...I'm sure others that are ASCAP/BMI members might be able to check it out though?

Re: US Copyright Search
Hey Stephen; It might actually be easier to find the actual copyright owner at Harry Fox:http://www.harryfox.com/index.jspDo a search by title, which will likely bring up numerous renditions, but usually it's a main recorded one, and big band, choir or other kinds of arrangements. The main recorded one (you'll see the names of artists who performed it) will be the version to use, and should have the copyright owner's info.Good luck!Suz

If the website you found can't help you and they are publicly offering this song then;1a) They see you as competition and don't want to help you.1b) It's a public domain song, thus they really don't want to help you, basically do you own leg-work2) They do not hold a license to offer the song and maybe don't want someone going legit, to possibly bring attention to them.Just a thought...Good LuckBB

I don't see how they can see me as competition. I'm not starting up a website based on the song or anything. I just want to know who the original composer, that's a silly point of view to hold. Either way I still just want to know the author so that I can give proper credit.
