Quote:Hey All,Just my two cents. I use EZDrummer, and I love it, but do agree that Addictive Drums has more flexibility. Here's the deal, though: Toontrack (who makes EZ), will be releasing their new plugin, Superior Drummer, in the next few months, and, in my opinion, this will absolutely kill both EZ and Addictive. I saw drummer Nir Z and the Toontrack team demo it at the NAMM show, and it was amazing. The kits themselves were beautifully recorded in some of the top drum rooms in the world (including the now closed Hit Factory), the mic options are insane, there are some great built in effects, and the library of grooves is top notch. Also, you can still use all of the EZ Drummer libraries in it.Now, just as Matto pointed out for himself, I'm not an endorsee or anything, but I just think that Superior is going to be something special. If you already have EZ, you'll be able to upgrade for $250 (without it will be a bit more), so it is more expensive than Addictive, but I think the quality will make it worth it. Nir, who's one of the top studio drummers in the world, said he used a prototype of it with an electric kit on a major session a few weeks ago, and that the producer was blown away. If it can get someone like him to play use an electric kit on a major session where acoustic drum sounds were required, I think it might work for me...Man, maybe they should be paying me DanWe'll see...it may well beat them ultimately for sound quality and flexibility, but will it beat AD for speed...that's the question. I've already got a 50Gig drum library sitting on my hard drive which I barely use despite it's fantastic sound, cause it is way too slow and cumbersome to use.I'm sure Superior Drummer will be better than that, but if it's bigger and even more realistic, chances are load times will be even slower than EZD.Regardless, there's always newer stuff coming out, and if you want the best of the best, there are other choices too (Ocean Way Drums comes to mind). Where AD scores for me is in the combination of quality, speed and flexibility.Features which IMHO might make it a good choice for the OP's needs as well...

Quote:Totally with you Matt, although one of the things I forgot to mention is that they're advertising Superior as having "been re-developed for optimized use with e-drums with more effective use of sample layers and much improved loading times".That first part is one of the huge bonuses for me, because I'll be playing the samples using v-drums, but it sounds like they'll be loading a lot quicker, as well.Dan, I think if you'll be playing with V Drums, Superior may be better since I don't think AD is optimized for that...Quote:Just out of curiosity, how does Addictive have such fast loading times? I have no idea...the guy demoing it at NAMM didn't know either, but then he was only a drummer (It's a JOKE! )

Quote:What part of Africa is Sweden from? OMG, that is too funny. This thread is so full of gems, I've already pulled out my super 24K gold ink pen and silk-covered notebook to take some good notes. Seriously guys, this is just what I was looking for. So thanks, matto, mazz, Dan, and Vikki. I did check out AD, and it looks like just the features I might want to have, though I am still considering EZD as an alternative. So first GB then AD or EZD. Thanks again, guys! Now all of us North Americans can sign up for the geography class at the next Rally... In the meantime, go test your geography of Europe here: www.lizardpoint.com/fun/geoquiz/euroquiz.htmlRaags

I'm sitting here LMAO because both my husband and I are totally flunking that geography test. LOL. Totally embarrassing. And to think we were both at the top of our classes... Hey, at least I did know where Sweden was...

Regarding the earlier question of using loops in GarageBand to create/augment commercial music, the following is from the Apple.com support site:Quote:"GarageBand Software. You may use the Apple and third party audio loop content (Audio Content), contained in or otherwise included with the Apple Software, on a royalty-free basis, to create your own original music compositions or audio projects. You may broadcast and/or distribute your own music compositions or audio projects that were created using the Audio Content, however, individual audio loops may not be commercially or otherwise distributed on a standalone basis, nor may they be repackaged in whole or in part as audio samples, sound effects or music beds."So don't worry, you can make commercial music with GarageBand, you just can't distribute the loops as loops.http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html ... =93762That info is regarding Apple's Garageband loops ONLY, so be sure to check licensing info on third party manufacturer loops, as they may have different usage restrictions.Hope that helps. Now, back to the regularly scheduled discussion of drum programs...
