Re: Using DISCO for pitching

I haven't pitched much direct to sup, pretty much everything I do is through music libraries. So far, the libraries I've worked with don't care what type of link you send them for a review listen-- SC, Disco, etc. as long as it works. But SC comes with a lot of annoyances worth avoiding. Piracy is rampant as well as constant spamming on the site from people who want to "help" you get more listens. You can create playlists but I find the user interface for that both for the creator and the receiver of the playlist clunky. I also found I needed to use one of their paid plans because I like to re-upload audio while keeping the same link. So I was paying something anyway.

Given the above as well as some of the potential advantages John mentioned, I see $10/month for Disco a good deal. It's also a very neat, clean way to store all your audio, tags, lyrics, composers, etc., create custom playlists, and more. I haven't dumped SC yet but more and more I'm sending my songs and playlists with Disco. While I don't expect to be "discovered" by a music sup on Disco (though you never know!), organizing your music in the best way-- songs with their instrumental tracks, lyrics, tags, etc. (for cues, it can be all the alt mixdowns), is very worthwhile. :D

Best,
:D Casey

I'm with you Casey. I've got over 300 songs on Disco right now, and as you mentioned the tagging features and metadata storage are really smooth. I also like the fact that you can copy metadata from one track to another and this truly speeds up my admin. Gives me more time to write :)

Best, john

Do you know of ReelCrafter? That is what I use, and it looks as though it may have nearly all of the features DISCO has. They recently rolled out a new version, which I heavily beta-tested, and they truly did an incredible job, improving upon something that was already exceptional

Hadn’t heard of ReelCrafter. Will check it out

Hey Marco, after your suggestion I did check out ReelCrafter.

Looks like a great system!
I saw a lot of good reviews from composers but I didn’t see any reviews (maybe I missed them?) from publishers or supervisors.

What I prefer about Disco is it seems to be the industry standard at the moment. So many of my libraries and publishers send me disco links as briefs. Disco may just be a tool that they’re used to. Idk
Of all the publishers I work with, only one uses Disco, and I believe they want to ditch it because they cannot afford it anymore. Nobody has ever complained about me sending RC reels, so far, so I believe they are satisfied :) However, from a brief perspective, I get none from Disco using publishers, as mentioned earlier.
Anyway, one uses whatever one feels comfortable with :)
Cool, in some respects it's like choosing between a Ford, Dodge or Chevy. Just drive what you're comfortable with :)

Exactly!
By the way, just got an unsolicited track signed by a library I sent it to via RC :D
