Using my roland octapad as a midi controller

Post by charlie2 » Tue Jul 26, 2011 8:33 am

hi everyone.

I got two problems for ya.

Problem number 1. When using my roland octapad as a midi controller I get the additive drum sounds I'm triggering plus the roland sounds together.

Anyone know how to get only the addictive drums sound w/o the roland sounds.

It sounds fine when I use the roland sounds alone on an audio or midi track.

Problem number 2. When I trigger the addictive sounds; I'm only getting specific drums. Not the snare and others which I want. How do I assign it to the drums I want?

Thanks again for all your help

I don't own one of these but maybe this will help:

To solve #1 you might consider disconnecting the audio connections or turning the volume knob all the way down.

For #2, according to the manual: http://www.rolandus.com/products/produc ... uctId=1059

Page 63 describes how to change the MIDI note assignment per pad.

Amazing how useful a manual can be at times! ;)

Good luck,

It might be easier to change the note assignments in Addictive Drums, because you can see the visual layout of the keys with the instruments (kitpieces) written on them. Go to the Beats page and click on Map Window in the lower right corner. Follow the instructions in the manual for dragging dropping and auditioning the note assignments. HTH :D

Thanks everyone.

Alright! I think I finally did it.

For anyone who needs this....go to menu...midi...and notes. Have your virtual instruments on the screen so you can see what drums you're assigning to each pad.

Also, if a pad has a bottom note number; make sure you make that note number the same as the top note number.

What's good about two note numbers is I can combine a snare skin hit with a snare rim shot all in one pad.

mojo...you're right...there's nothing like a real drum, but with addictive drums and the many usable roland sounds; I may end up keeping this until I get more room.

ps...by the way..i just found out that sam ash takes 15% off your full refund if you return items. Guitar center doesn't do this. I think. I'll make my next purchase there. ;)

One problem left.

I can record the roland as a controller onto a midi/instrument track.

I can also record the sounds on the roland onto an audio track, but when I record the sounds of the roland onto a midi/instrument track (instrument track is the same as midi in pt), I get an echo effect which builds up.

I called roland and told them I think I touched a loop effect or something but they were no real help.

(Roland support is not too good.)

Any ideas

Thanks everyone.

I just found out that if I take out the midi in cable from the roland; I can record the roland sounds ok on a midi track. But it won't play back!

Therefore, the echo came from the computer/software via the midi in cable?

But why doesn't it play back? I see the midi data....but no sound or signal. When I record I see the data and signal but playback shows no signal with no sound

I'm set on predefined M box, channel 10 which is where I should be on my track.

Thanks again

Try this

put your cable back in.

on the octapad select midi and if you can find a setting called "local" set that to off.
