Lotta gray area, it seems. And I don't suppose any of us laymen have any concrete answers when it comes to the legalities of this.
My advice though would to pursue caution over creativity when it comes to this stuff. But I'm always paranoid about issues like this.... perhaps needlessly so.
The more we talk about this, the more I think this whole concept of Fair Use vs. Copyright Violation would make a great Taxi TV. I wonder if Erin Jacobsen knows the answer to this overarching question?

i think that's a good idea matt, making a taxi tv episode about this issue, or at least cover it. seems a bit of a gray area to me too
