Posting to Soundcloud

I noticed that a lot of Taxi members have their own Soundcloud so I'm assuming
theres no problems with posting Cues that you have signed to libraries?? And also
what format is best to use for quality sound on soundcloud MP3's or Wav files? Also
has anyone had supervisor, Library etc find your Cues/music on Soundcloud???

I've used SoundCloud since the Eisenhower administration (my sister calls it "SoundClown" because it has certain things that you DON'T want, like after the piece you or a client listen to, it goes directly into the most recent song you've uploaded. Bad! I've written them to remove this --- sometimes it even goes into to ANOTHER artist's song --- but they ignore the request, claiming that their engineers don't know how to do it, which I call bullshit). But, yes, Wav files are always vastly superior to Mp3 files, since Mp3s are "compressed" (i.e., you hear only a small portion of the recorded sound).

That said, SoundCloud has an algorithm that can sense if you don't have a copyright to your own material. For instance, I remastered a Beatles song and tried to upload it. Their computers analyzed the sound file, and rejected it as a copyright infringement! Really. But I doubt a piece of music signed to a library has the same protection that the Beatles' library has. There must be digital watermarks that tell the SoundCloud computers that you stole someone else's music (in my case, Yoko's LOL!).

FYI, Reverbnation does NOT have such sophisticated computers. I uploaded the same remastered Beatles song, and they happily accepted it (but I changed the name slightly). I still get emails from Reverbnation (which I rarely use because they accept ONLY Mp3s) wanting me to "market" my music (read: More $$$). And they seem to love my song "Why You Cried" which is actually the Beatles' "Tell Me Why," the original Beatles version (not a remake by me!). Dummies!

But SoundCloud, with all its faults, is a great server because you can upload images that describe your music in a visual form. And you can write how you went about composing your piece and any other wisdom you may have.

FWIW: still using the 'free' version, I deleted all of the tracks I'd posted that are currently WIP and being readied for final mastering,
and then sent to CD Baby for CD manufacturing - some folks still like to get the physical package, with the lyrics and credits.
But - those numbers will probably continue to dwindle, and go the way of the 8-track tape.

I agree with what everyone else says. I wouldn't post publicly, signed cues. Wav the best to upload. None will find your cues unless you post a link to them, the odds of being discovered by just posting and waiting? Zero??

Imo it's very rare that anyone stumbles onto anything, they are either actively searching, or directed. What I mean by searching, is not a search of tags, because the results will be overwhelming and mostly not applicable, but a specific search, like a name or a group. What I mean by "directed", is a link is posted in taxi peer to peer, a product has a list of demos linked on their site, a contest, a blogger, facebook, ... that has soundcloud links.

does get converted to MP3 128 But it certainly does the job-I really do appreciate the

REALLY!? A 128 Mp3? That's terrible. I PAY them for posting Wav files, which I upload. And they convert them to that trash? Wow... That does it. I'm going to get my OWN website.

The conversion is only for streaming. If you enable downloading you can allow downloads of the original file format you have uploaded.

That puts the onus back on the poster,lol! You upload a wav, enable download, and voila the listener can download and listen in wav.

Do people ever use it? Very seldom. I use to look for it when someone posted a song in peer-to-peer. I figured if someone spent a lot of time mastering and getting everything just so so, it was only fair to download the wav, listen and comment. Why wouldn't someone upload and download enable a wav?
