"Satanic" choirs?

Post by andreh » Thu Dec 13, 2007 6:27 pm

Hey Gang-I'm considering grabbing one of the sweet deals that soundsonline.com has going on right now, but I'm wondering about the choir sounds in the EW Symphonic Choirs package. Can any of you who are using it tell me if it can do the classic punctuated, angry vocal phrases like you hear in "The Omen?" I think the phrase in that case was, "Rectus, dominus" [in Latin]. Are there any other choral packages that can achieve this sound? Also, can someone verify that the sounds from "Voices of the Apocalypse" (discontinued) are present in Symphonic Choirs? Thanks,André

I can't answer your question...but...are you sure it was "rectus dominus" that was in "The Omen"? I believe that "rectus dominus" is latin for "Ass Master." I know that was the chant in the south park episode with damien son of satan lol. I hope somebody here can answer your question because I too am looking for choir sounds like that. I'll let you know if I find any.

Andreh, afaik EWQL Choirs is entirely new recordings made in the same Hall that EWQLSO was recorded in (Benaroya I believe). So I think the only thing from VOTA that's in Choirs is the concept of recording all sounds and of "wordbuilding".I don't know the specific example (Omen) that you're referring to, but Choirs excels at doing Horneresque orchestra/choir passages.I've only used the preset Latin phrases so far and haven't built my own words or phrases, but I find it to be quite convincing when mixed with other stuff. I haven't heard anything a capella done with it that was 100% convincing (as far as actual singing of words is concerned; it does very well in the oh-ah-oo etc department).

I was about to post about that episode, but I totally thought the "Rectus Dominus" line was from The Omen (and that the response line, "Cheesy poofs," was SP's spoof contribution).I wonder if Symphonic Choirs has that as one of its Latin phrases... That's great info. I wasn't wholly convinced either when I heard some custom Wordbuilder examples online, but I think they could sit well in an orchestral mix.Too bad nobody seems to be selling Voices of the Apocalypse anymore.André

Hey Andreh, I can hook you up with a recording of my daughter's HS choir--the Boys Glee section sounded like Hell...

I did a big evil sounding Man-Choir a la "Hunt for Red October" by stacking myself a bunch of times trying to use a lot of different "voices" for a theme for a NASCAR Trucks series on Speed Channel. Buried in the the orchestra/rock band with nonsense syllables that sounded like the Darth Maul theme in Episode 1, it worked pretty well.
