You can separate the different types of files, but I suggest keeping them all together in the folder that is created when you install the instrument. This will make it easier when you move to yet a larger hard drive in the future. In fact, you could make a top level folder that is "Kontakt Instruments" and have all the sub folders be the folders for the individual libraries. So it would look something like this: Kontakt Instruments/Instrument X and then in that folder you'd have all your nkc, nkx files and another folder called "samples". You'd have several of these folders just under the top folder, one for each library that you own.If you install all future instruments into that top level folder, then when you have to move to a larger hard drive (and you will), you just drag that folder over and then tell Kontakt where it is. Everything is in one place and you're off and making music instead of mucking around with unnecessary computer stuff.HTH,Mazz

Ok so I think I just realized something about directing to the library:Directing to the specific folder within the main folder may not be necessary?Example - If the chain goes - Program Files/Native Instruments/Kontakt Player 2/VI one - (and the library files are in VI One) I can just direct the program to Native Instruments and it will find it?? That's how it is set up so I guess I answered my own question... I guess I figured the directing had to be more specific...Anyway thanks a lot Mazz and everyone else who posted, it's been really helpful! Enough mucking around now, time to make music! Brindabella - Are you going to be at the rally?? You and I could talk for hours about our file transfer woes...doesn't that sound fun It would be cool to meet up though

Im not going this year, can`t ! But maybe next year we can meet. You have no idea the mess I can create on a PC! In fact, I have no idea of my potential to create a disaster! When my kids were little they loved when I played Nintendo with them because of all the "fun" things that I could do without trying. One time I managed to get Super Mario stuck against a wall banging his head while millions of coins fell. Of course I lost because since I couldnt get Mario out I was timed out!

Wow, Mario that brings back memories. You're not the only one making messes - One day I thought It'd be a good idea to do some computer house keeping...Transferred all of my song projects to the external, then deleted them from my pc, you know to make room?! What I didn't realize was the whole project file AND audio file thing. Needless to say it was a big mess, had the projects but no audio - which were all deleted. 3 years of material almost lost... But with the help of some computer tech friends and a weeks of looking in every dark corner of my pc managed to piece most of the songs back together. I've learn a lot about computers in the last 6 months! Bummer you won't be there this year...maybe next year we can hang. happy recording!
