A vote for Spectrasonics Trilogy. It's old, but still sounds absolutely fantastic and offers an incredible variety - acoustic bass (multiple mic/DI setups), electric bass (multiple instruments and playing techniques), synth basses, etc.

Re: Virtual Bass Guitar
Hey Liam,If you own Stylus there is a pretty good loop library by Nine-Volt Audio called Stylin' Basslines that has both funky real bass and synth bass lines that are very usable. I use Trilogy for programming bass lines from scratch.Of course, like Martin I'm a big fan of real bass players; upright, electric, and synth. They add so much flavor to a recording.I wish you good shopping!!Cisco

I'm with Zirc. Trilogy fits my need perfectly. But above all, it's way more about HOW you use something, than it's actual sound, IMHO. Quote:A vote for Spectrasonics Trilogy. I've used Trilogy on pretty much anything I don't use a live guy on for as long as Trilogy's been around. Steve's right... you gotta think like a bass player.

Re: Virtual Bass Guitar
On Matto's recommendation I picked up Yellow Tools Majestic. It is only electric and acoustic bass as opposed to Trilogy which also does synths. I find the detail of the sound very nice but I've never used Trilogy so I can't compare them. The acoustic bass incorporates finger noises that make it sound very realistic (as long as it's played idomatically) without any other programming necessary. The electric basses have direct and amp versions and all instruments include things like slides, fret/finger noises, slide fx, etc.. I've played parts and then moved certain notes to seperate tracks to trigger half or whole step slides and damped notes, etc.I haven't spent much time programming patches but it's possible to set up key switches for different articulations and do layering, etc.Yellow Tools isn't that well known (the guys at Guitar Center had never heard of it but that's not a big surprise) but if their other libraries are as good as Majestic, they're worth checking out.Mazz
