websites-bandzoogle/hostbaby vs. wordpress

In a recent newsletter- http://tinyurl.com/6tbreq5
coach Debra Russel says:
<I also don’t recommend the template options that are abundant out there. For example, if you’re a musician or band, you can build a template website on Bandzoogle, Nimbit or Hostbaby to name a few. And it can be useful as a quick and dirty shortcut. But I don’t think you save money in the long run and you run the same risk as using Facebook, MySpace or ReverbNation for your website – you don’t own it.>

Before reading this i was prepared to start a site on bandzoogle but I'm having second thoughts. I'm all about quick and easy but at the same time I'm willing to go the distance if need be. How important is it to actually own your site? And what else comes into play in choosing between the two options?

Thanks,
JP
