Weirdness with Focusrite Saffire 6 USB

Post by ernstinen » Wed Jul 31, 2013 4:48 pm

Hey all,

I've got a Focusrite Saffire 6 USB connected to my Vision DAW. Worked great until lately. It seems the "Audio Setup" doesn't talk to it all of a sudden! It recognizes the sample rate, the ASIO interface, and the output device (Focusrite driver). But when I click O.K., it beeps at me saying "You have to set at least a valid audio interface."

Huh? I don't get it. It seems like a hardware issue, meaning the Focusrite is fried. I've done the software mumbo jumbo, to no avail.... Plus swapping cords and all that stuff.

Suggestions would be highly appreciated!

Best,

Ern 8-) :)

Yeah, it's weird - I know people who swear by the Saffire 6. I bought one a year or two ago, and had similar problems to what you are describing. On 2 seperate computers, no less. STILL don't really know if I got a bad unit, or if it just didn't jive with my system(s). I eventually got tired of messing with it, bought a cheap Mackie interface to keep working, and have just kept using that. Sorry I can't offer help, but at least we know we're not crazy, right? :) I'll be interested to see what anyone else has to say on this one though...

Best of luck!

Thanks for that, Bob! What kind of Mackie did you buy? I just want to get back to work....

One thing I noticed with the Focusrite was that when the DAW powered down, the Saffire would flash red LEDs like it wasn't happy. Could it have fried itself? A Focusrite tech said that the unit has gone bad, but I'm sure not going to fix it if it has intrinsic problems like that!

Oh well.... Carry on!

Well, I can't exactly reccomend the interface I've got - bought it used, and it's been off the market for about 5 years, AND it uses europower! Found that out when I got home and plugged it in. Was thinking at the time, "jeez, what's a guy got to do to record a couple guitar tracks?!?" Actually planning to get something else, but don't want to take a chance on another saffire 6. As you can relate to. Anyone else have a good, reliable, simple, usb interface you can recommend?
