What CD's to prepare?
It seems there may be multiple opportunities to present your CD's at the rally: one-on-one mentoring; various panels; chance meetings; etc. For the long-time rally attendees, what would you recommend as far as preparing CD's to bring? If you write instrumentals and songs, should you put songs on one version of your CD and instruments on another? Should you further divide instrumental (or song) CD's by style?Should you bring a dvd with short videos you've scored?Any insight would be helpful! Thanks.Richardwww.richardemmet.com

I'm gonna put a CD together with several tunes on it..... one CD with instrumentals and tunes, several different genre's of music, no need to carry several different disks.....just MHO...

well I'd say it depends on what your goals are.are you looking for a record deal / presenting yourself as an artist?or are you a composer who'd like to get his music on film & tv?the CDs for each of these examples might look & sound diffrent.hth, martin

I'd definitely narrow the goals down or, if you have two goals, for instance, maybe you wanna rep yourself as both an artist and a film/tv writer (yowza, I know someone who's doing that and he's got no time to sleep! LOL), take two CDs, one for each goal with appropriate rep songs fo each.Good luck! May the sun shine on you and you make a deal. On an aside, nice avatar, Martin!

By artist, I assume you mean "performer". No, I'm just a composer and occasional songwriter. My main goals are: music placements in film and TV,film/TV/ad scoring, song cut (on the one song I currently have that might be presentable)R

Then you would be shopping your songs/instrumentals to a library, correct? That's your goal? If so, you would only need one CD that represents a variety of your best pieces and distribute that one to the mentor/panels, etc.I'm unsure about the video. Maybe someone else will know.

Re: What CD's to prepare?
I usually bring about 25 discs with me. Put 4 or 5 songs on there that are the best representation of you that there is. I like to put a mish mosh of genres on there to show my range but if you do this don't put every genre you write on there whether you're good at it or not. Just your strengths. As for the DVD, I wouldn't bother. That's what buisness cards are for. Make a bunch of cards to hand out and have links to your websites and youtubes of your works. Most importantly don't stress. This is supposed to be fun and the more relaxed you are the better time you'll have and the more you will learn!Have fun!Jeannajeannamurphy.com

Re: What CD's to prepare?
Thanks a lot for sharing all this great information and advice....and aswering many of my questions. Your comments made me wonder though...I have published two CD's with (2x) 12 of my own songs, which I am (was?) planning to bring. Is it too much to hand out a full CD?....I am very happy with/proud of all my recorded songs, so I honestly would find it hard to just make a brief 'greatest hits' compilation, with just a few songs on (except some instrumentals that I may make separately, that are not on the 2 CDs).Not knowing what kind of songs 'they' may be looking for, I might chose the wrong ones too. Can't wait to meet you all and learn a BUNCH + have a ball....I hope.
