imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

Any music with [genuine] feel. Technical stuff is boring to me and a chore to listen to.
The stuff I relax to (and learn from) has a soul.
BTW, even electronic music can have feel, if it's programed right...

We recently got a classical music station here.
Been listerning to it for awhile in my car.
When you hear it often enough you get to recognize genres, time periods and rock stars of their time.
I especially like piano and guitar solo pieces.
It helps me understand what is possible.

I listen to seriously everything from 20s-30s New Orleans jazz and depression era delta blues and folk to Justin Bieber. (though I guess I don't listen to Bieber for fun, exactly) I've got Buck Owens and Moby. Not a lot of classical, but I have some Bach lute suites, some switched-on organ fugues played on synthesizers, a massive collection of recordings of antique music boxes, (MIDI for steampunks) I'm deep in Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Tony Bennett and Mel Torme. All the usual forties big band suspects, prettty much all the great guitarists from Robert Johnson through Eddie Lang, T-Bone Walker and Les Paul through BB King all the way up through SRV, Buddy Guy all the way up through Derek Trucks, and on the country side from Doc Watson through Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, Joe Maphis, Jimmy Bryant through Danny Gatton, Keith Urban and Brad Paisley ; everything by SRV, Brian Setzer and Jeff Beck, even some comedy records(Bill Cosby to Cheech y Chong) and the last thing I listened to for pleasure was Yngvie Malmsteen's Rising Force. The lyrics to "I Am A Viking"? Seriously, hilarious. You haven't lived 'til you've sung along to that one in traffic and your most operatic tenor...

Silence is a great response!
After that, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Debussy. Then onto Stravinsky, Big Band, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, James Brown, SRV, Yes, and other prog rock. At the noise extreme, Nirvana, AC/DC, etc. I'll even give death metal a listen! I'll listen to any artist who is really into what they're doing. No corporate pop for me.
Oh, my favorite new band: Here Come The Mummies! A clever cross between Zappa & James Brown. Funk at its best!

Nashville 94 FM "The Fish", new age, jazz and hip hop channels on U-verse. I can relate to the "Marshall stack syndrome" as well. 12 hrs at a time in front of JBLs can stunt your growth.

I get the silence thing. I liked that a lot when I was gigging frequently. It is sad in a way though, that work can make us want to avoid something we once (presumably) loved so much.
