What Genre?

Post by mileswinter » Wed Sep 09, 2009 8:10 am

Hello AllI'm a songwriter/producer from London and I am having some trouble finding a genre that best suits my sort of music? I know its going to be somewhere in between pop and rock but where would you define it yourself? Is Pop/Rock sufficient?http://www.neo8.com/dwinterI'd also welcome any comments on the four tracks listed - good or bad if you have the time! Commercial potential? Many thanks in advance!Miles

Miles: I listened to all four tunes. On #1, I like the rap coming in at 1:10, @ 2:05, and 3:10. Very nicely done. On #2, I liked the background echos,, liked the changes at 1:48, and the variation @ 2:20. You have a "wall of sound effect on all these tunes that is very appealing. On #3, I wondered about the 40 second intro. Also, though I could hear the "bringing me down" quite well, I had trouble hearing the rap in the background, you might bring them upa little bit. Liked the change of pace @ 2:37. On #4, I was neutral -- nothing bad about it, I was wondering where it might be placed. Overall, very commercial, very nicely done. It's definitely pop, maybe "synth-pop", whatever that may be. I enjoyed it, thanks for sharing.Ott

Hi OttMany thanks for the comments, singing isn't one of my strongest points so I appreciate the pointers! With #4 I was experimenting with a slightly different style - "cheesy pop/rock" I guess...

Maybe I keep turning the vocals down subconsciously as it's my own voice Are the intros in general too long or just on track 3?Thanks again.
