What is the definition of High Suspense?

Post by mixopenta » Wed Jul 02, 2008 4:34 am

I wonder if someone could help me define the genre for these? These are some leftovers I created for an action listing awhile back. At the time I thought they weren't enough action, but instead leaning more toward suspense. Now I worry about them being too much action and not enough suspense?? Anyway, I had this crazy idea to submit them to this listing, but I'm a bit uncertain if they really fit the bill... HIGH SUSPENSE INSTRUMENTALS are needed by an East Coast Music Publisher who has secured dozens of Film/TV placements for TAXI writers over the years. He's looking for a wide variety of styles, but the mood does need to be filled with suspense and edge. He'll be looking for shifts in tone, instrumentation and dynamics throughout each piece. He's open to any arrangement or instrumentation, as long as the tone is right. Excellent performances are absolutely necessary. He wants tracks that are between 1:00 and 3:00 in length, though he may ask for :30 and :60 edits if he wants to sign your material. He doesn't want fadeouts, just clear endings.Be warned, these tracks are quite weird http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... 4&stream=1

hey there!Good pieces! And while they are suspenseful, it seems more on the action side to me... though they are hard hitting and edgy! Reading the listing, I'm inclined to look to the classic horror movies like Friday the 13th and Halloween... starting off really quiet and the hitting it hard for the shot of the hand coming up with the knife! I think the 1st 2 could work with the themes you have, if you went in and adjusted the dynamics and possibly shifting some other things around within the piece. Set it up so that you have some surprising dynamic and/or tonal shifts, and you'll have it IMO.Cheers

I'm with zoom, here. The first two could work for the listing, but lean more toward action than suspense, lots of tension in the third one, too, though. Most disturbing, not in the musical way, is how some of the cymbals in the first piece keep getting "cut off". If that's an editorial decision, you might want to re-think it. Very nice and "vibey".
