I is impossible to know the purpose of anything without knowing the mind and intentions of the one who created it. Will chime in more later

Re: What's The Purpose Of Life
Hey forgot to mention the all creators leave a manual. We musicians leave scores to show how the music should be played and even used. Car makers leave manuals for the car, electronic makers leave manuals as well. This exempts them from any abuse when the product is not used in the way it was intended. To find purpose we need the instruction manual... Will chime in later

To find purpose we need the instruction manual... Will chime in laterJust like Mozart wrote his 'score', I am writing mine I think our purpose is to write our own individual instruction manual. To celebrate our unique individuality while being connected to the whole. To have the strength to follow our own path, to embrace diversity, to understand that 'freedom' comes from within, from recognizing thought patterns, habits and behaviours that are habitual & that may stop us from moving forward / growing / raising our conscious awareness. A manual written by someone else may not resonate with us because we each are special and need find our own way. Not that we can't find value in other points of view as we are searching for our own. Not that reading about someone else's journey or spiritual practice wouldn't be inspiring as we are writing our own story. It seems to me that the world is multisyllabic, that there are many variations on a theme (different breeds of dogs & cats, and whales, and snakes, and birds, etc; a symphony of different sounds; a beautiful variety of colours; a cacophany of languages)... seems to me that means that creation is meant to be multi-musical, multi-hued, multi-spiritual, all with the same aim... to be alive and treasure that aliveness in vibrant harmony.H

Re: What's The Purpose Of Life
Hey Brad.Just seen this.Deep question, needing a serious answer.I'd say making other people money seems to be pretty much my main purpose.Monty Python covered just about everything else.
I put the kettle on, it didn't suit me.

A Word About Religion
In spiritual matters, I prefer to focus on what unites us, rather than on what divides us. Hinduism, Bhuddism, Shinto, Native American cosmologies, in fact most of the world's religions are pretty compatible on the basics. (apparently, the devil's in the details ) A mere glance at European history shows that most bloodshed occurs between rival factions worshipping the same deity, usually over petty arguments about how exactly one should go about the worshipping. When Christ said "There is no path to salvation save through me", I believe He meant His path, the path of peace, enlightenment, forgiveness, turning the other cheek yadda yadda, which is little different from the path of say, Buddha or Ghandi. The Spiritualists aren't that far apart from the Jews OR the Unitarians. (it's a shame them poor Mormons is goin' ta hell, though; they're such nice folks )Before the discussion turns to how the Emperor Constantine hijacked the Christian faith, arguments ensue and the thread gets shut down, I'd like to add this little nugget; just cuz it makes me smile.

And Brad, I hope the town you referred to is the one where they filmed this; it's vey picturesque.

Re: What's The Purpose Of Life
I don't want to start a discussion that no one wants to have, but I do think it's important to understand what Christ was talking about. He made some very sharp statements that, no doubt, are divisive. He clearly wasn't too interested in pleasing crowds; He was focused on individuals that were looking for the truth, like us who are discussing this topic. It's clear that Christ was referring to Himself, not His methods or view of life, since He said "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; No one comes to the Father but through Me."He earlier said the old chestnut many learned as kids: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." And he followed it up with "He who believes in Him (referring to the Son, Himself) is not judged (or condemned, same word); he who does not believe has been judged (condemned, again) already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."The earliest manuscripts, copies of Paul's letters written only a few decades (most in the AD 50's) after Christ, support this notion, long before there was even a chance to twist messages.Again, each of us has to make up our minds about where we think the truth falls. That involves looking closely at the evidence, some we like and some we don't.Peace.Jonathan

Peace.Jonathan If you don't want to start that discussion, then why post it? Yes you have every reason to believe that it's important to understand what Christ was talking about. But personally, after growing up Catholic... I don't want to come to the Taxi forum for any kind of Bible study. I'm totally into seeking the truth, but there's always more than one way to skin a cat. When we start talking about what HE did, we lose half our audience. And you posted your opinion right under a very funny Monty Python video, every sperm is sacred. That juxtaposition would make those Monty Python quite proud. I can see them quaffing an ale and saying, Let's see what happened next."

Re: What's The Purpose Of Life
Maybe we can boil it all down to one simple thing:Our (meaning those of us here on this here forum) purpose is to make music.
