Hi, Casey!

Sorry I couldn't get to your TAXI TV episode, but my internet server was down (for well over 48 hours!) and I didn't get it back till Tuesday evening! I'm listening now, and decided to come post here.

Would anyone want to go to the Ralphs grocery store with me when we get there? I'm thinking the restaurants, even Denny's, are going to be too pricey for me, especially if I'm having to have people help me get to the Rally in the first place! I used to shop at Ralphs when I lived in San Diego (where, on some levels, I wish I still lived). There's a mini fridge in the room, right? I could make sandwiches for every day and and have a bagel & cream cheese for breakfast, or some Cheerios. Yelp says it's only 0.7 mi. from the airport. Not sure if it would be safe to walk (or if I should even try to walk so far, with my health), but maybe there's a bus?

Still hoping to find a female roommate to split room costs, if possible! #MaryMalone ? Spotted your post in the TAXI chat from 8/26/24

Cheers!
Merry/Marion

Not safe to walk!! You would have to take an uber to and from. There might be a closer inexpensive supermarket, you could ask at the hotel. But still uber. Sometimes more than one person wants to make such a run so you MIGHT (can't be sure) be able to share the uber cost. You could also take some stuff in your suitcase-- non perishables like Cheerios, meal bars, etc.

Do you have a way of getting in touch with Mary Malone? The hashtag here won't do anything. You would be better off searching for her on places like Soundcloud, Facebook, etc.

Update: I found her Taxi and Facebook pages, assuming it's the same person (very likely). PM me for more info.

Seriously ? Not safe to walk less than a mile ? Theat seems bizarre. What do people do when they want to take a walk or go for a run ?

Have you ever been to LA, Mark? Some areas you really do not want to be walking around even in broad daylight (speaking from experience). Around the Westin hotel is not as bad, but you had best going around with your mates rather than on your own...

No , never been to LA. Been to lots of other major cities - London -Machester - Birmingham in the UK a lot. Paris - Barcelona - Rome - Stuttgart - Antwerp around Europe

The only places I've been to in the US are Orlando - Fort Lauderdale - Florida Keys etc & Jacksonville ( got married there ) - Never felt unsafe anywhere I've been and I would always walk anywhere that's less than about 3 miles.

What does the distance have to do with it?

The area around the Westin is not horribly dangerous, don't want to give the wrong impression. But it a bit sketchy, especially where the nearby highway underpasses are. I know of one incident whereby a rally-goer took a walk and got mugged fairly close to the hotel. I wouldn't want MY wife or daughter to walk 1 mile from the hotel by herself, so I certainty wouldn't advise that to Marion here.

Everyone and anyone can do what they are comfortable with. But the general advice is avoid straying on foot from the immediate area by the hotel. We all walk to Denny's, a long block away without problems (AFAIK) but even then, we are generally more than one person.

Because it gets to the point where walking take too long.
