What trade magazines or websites is everyone subscribing to?
Hi, I'm new to Taxi and new to trying to get my songs licensed. What I do know is pretty much what I've learned from this forum hear on Taxi over the last 3 or 4 months. Any suggestions of trade magazines, books or websites on the songwriting licensing industry or what you would think would be good for me would be great.
Hear is a link to two of my songs to give you an idea of my songwriting/produsing ability.

Thanks,
Damon

I subscribe to Billboard for various reasons. The charts are nice to get, but more importantly they cover trends in music very well, so you can get a sense of where the music business is going.
It isn't much help in terms of film and tv however.
I would totally recommend looking into Ariel Hyatt for all things related to marketing your career. She has a wealth of knowledge and is always current and hip.
Best,
Cisko

Sound on Sound and TapeOp for me. Also a number of Web sites like KVRAudio and GearSlutz.
I used to ge EQ and Mix and Recording... but they all start to blend together after a while. I've found SOS offers a great blend of reviews and how to articles and good info.

I will check out Billboard I am clueless to what is current. I snooped around Ariel Hyatt's website, looks like she provides a great service. I just don't have the money or flexibility. Wife, two little ones, cat and mortgage all depending on me. I tune piano's in the mornings, give lessons in the afternoon and now write and record on nights and weekends. I used to do a lot of gigging but it never payed the bills. I am currently 3 months into my Taxi 3 year plan. One of my goals by the end of my 3 years is to be writing full time. Sorry for running on so.ciskokidd wrote:I subscribe to Billboard for various reasons. You can also check outSoundonSound.com. You can subscribe to their virtual magazine there if you don't want to get the paper one. I actually subscribe to both
TapeOp is great, but it is geared way more to engineering and mixing - not so much music composition. But they have great articles and interviews.
Also, there is a ton of info hanging around these boards. Go back into the archieves a bit and read some of the past threads. When I first signed up, I spent a few days just going over past items - big help.

Re: What trade magazines or websites is everyone subscribing to?
I have been soaking up all the Taxi articles and the videos/live Taxi. Writing, engineering, mixing, the business... I need it all! I can play, write, produce, I even have some talent. What I need improvement on is my work ethic and understanding of producing a marketable song for a Taxi listing. I'm green and I believe Taxi is the good soil I need to be growing in. Thanks for your help!!!kclements wrote:You can also check outSoundonSound.com. You can subscribe to their virtual magazine there if you don't want to get the paper one. I actually subscribe to both
