All of the programs you mention will benefit from the increased processing power in general. The dual core CPU is similar to having two computers in the same box sharing the load of what you are asking it to do. Most software these days is written to take advantage of the dual processors and modern operating systems distribute the load very effectively, making the process invisible to you.One of the things that will make your software run even better is RAM. Get as much as you can afford. These days it seems like 2G is a good place to start. With RAM more is always better!Enjoy,Mazz

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

Re: What Vsti's benefit from dual core cpu?
The reason a dual core CPU will help is that Sonar, your host, supports the cores. Hopefully it distributes the plug-in load among multiple cores; I know it supports the cores, but I don't have a multicore machine running Windows to see what it actually does. But the dual cores won't help with, say, GigaStudio 3, which only uses one core (unless that's changed; they're about to come out with v.4 anyway, and I'm sure that'll change then).
