What Would Lennon Do Now?
I was just wondering what type of music John Lennon would be doing now (as well as Hendrix). Lennon had a pop side, but his later stuff had a real edge to it. I believe it would be experimental like "I Am The Walrus," but maybe more hard rock.I just listened to Nirvana's "Nevermind," and Kurt Cobain really seemed to channel what Lennon was going for. Would Lennon go to that extreme? Maybe. He loved to shred his voice, and really liked a heavy guitar sound. Listen to the outro to "I Want You (She's So Heavy) where he and Harrison multitracked those guitars. Also, even though it may have been Paul's song, "Helter Skelter" is pure grunge rock. I've heard that was recorded by the band simultaneously in a large closet at Abbey Road at full volume. What do ya think?Ern

Serious note though - dont think he woulda done stuff much differently... kinda like Paul still does the whole folk pop stuff... Cobains voice was agressive, dont think Lennon could ever pull that off

Agressive? Lennon could easily of done a "Cobain" voice.

Cold turkey has a great vocal. While searching I found this hilarious one. I guess paul was right not wanting her in the studio.

That granted is aggressive, but NOWHERE near as aggressive as Cobain... the timbre of his voice isn't right for the style... Cobain has bass and mid attack in his aggressiveness, Lennon just had a slightly annoying high attack, which a lot of people can do, it's getting the power behind that that counts...

Another of those things that might be worthwhile to discuss, but pointless to debate.

I always wondered what sort of astonishing work Hendrix would have offered to the disco era. And I'm not joking. I think Hendrix would have explored a whole lot of new territory...he used to express a desire to work with orchestral arrangements. Can you dig it? (Yes I can.)Hard to say about Lennon...he was full of surprises in the 60's, but hit sort of a predictable stride in the 70's...and I wouldn't call Double Fantasy surprising. After the househusband years--in which we saw disco, punk and new wave change the face of things--he came back with timeless Lennon music that would have worked just as well in '71. So maybe he found his comfort zone. I always imagined what he might have brought to the Wilburys or some other such supergroup. This is bumming me out again, because he looked mostly happy, for once, in 1980. He had a new buoyant energy that surely would have brought us music we would now be calling classic. All lost.
