imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

Hey I like this. As a student of culinary arts as well, there comes a point when you can overdo which spoils the dish. You can marinate too much, overcooked, over garnish, over chill. Even then when over doing by accident it brings out a new idea and twist. My take is this a song is never really ever done you can reharmonize, rewrite, change the rhythm etc but there comes a point when you loose the essence of what you felt firstly, that special umph that touched you. So K.I.S.S Keep It Simple Stupid (smart if you prefer to say that). I wrote some song a long time ago and like them and as I gained more knowledge I recognized that some thing I could change or do differently without spoiling the song, so I try it. If I like it then it's a go...

. . . and as Dizzie Gillespie so wisely said:"It's taken me all my life to learn what not to play."Speaks volumes . . . I always tell my composing students (and myself) that the space between the notes is as or more important than the notes themselves, because space gives the rest of the notes context and contrast. So maybe one element of "done" is having enough space still left . . .
