Where Do I belong
Hi AllLong time lurker. First time poster.I have been writing and playing for a very long time.I am also an engineer/producer as well.I have had regional success with various groups and have written many jingles or background music for radio and local TV.I am interested in getting my music to other artists, or TV background. While I am comfortable in the singer/songwriter role I am not trying to make it as a performing artist.Do I need to hire someone to sing my vocals for my submits. If I am submitting a song for writing how polished does the recording have to be. I work in a nice studio so I can produce a great demo.I look forward to making some contacts and learning from my fellow Taxi membersTake Care Jimi

Re: Where Do I belong
Hi, Jimi. Welcome to the boards. Seeing how nobody else has posted yet, I'll jump in with my two cents. I've been a TAXI member for a little over a year and have just signed a licensing deal with a music library for two instrumentals. Still working on the pop songs, though! It's pretty clear that even when a listing doesn't ask for broadcast quality - sometimes they even say "demo quality is fine" - they still want to hear your best possible work. The story goes that anybody worth their salt in this business will be able to tell if a song is great by just a piano and vocal, but it really needs to be a GOOD piano and vocal, not just a slapped-together rough cut.I don't have much of a singing voice, but I've gotten critiques that had a "yes" check on "Vocals contribute to the overall song quality." But those were straight-ahead pop/rock tunes, not opera or anything that required any fancy vocal gymnastics. I think you have to play (or record, as the case may be) to your strengths and bring in someone who can give the best performance if you don't think that someone is yourself.Hope that helps in a small way.Kathleen

Hello Jimi, welcome Kathleen's advice seems good, I certainly can't offer anymore but it sounds like you have enough of what you need to get heard lol!I was going to open a similar thread because I've been wondering along those same lines. It states on the TAXI info page that it's rare a chart buster will get refused due to recording quality but still I think it's gotta be an outstanding, excellent song. With radio and local TV maybe standards have to be higher still?!Not sure Jimi but best of luck.Lindsey

Welcome Jimi Yes, there can be some difference between demos for song pitching and broadcast quality recordings for film/tv. How good do demos have to be to pitch songs to artists? Clean, decent, in tune, sell the song well. Best way to find out is to submit a couple to a listing, or get a custom critique, or post 'em up in Peer to Peer and ask for our opinions.H'bird
