Where to go with this...?

Post by petez » Sun Sep 07, 2008 6:53 am

This following track of mine has been collecting dust in my hard drive since I composed it about a year ago. Now I would like to put it in use, but I'm not sure where I should pitch it. Or should I pitch it at all.. Here's the track: http://petrisuhonen.com/music/Petri_Suh ... ath.mp3I'm open for all kinds of opinions and suggestions!

I like it. The combination of sounds works for me. I think you should pitch it. Tom

Here's the track: http://petrisuhonen.com/music/Petri_Suh ... ath.mp3I'm open for all kinds of opinions and suggestions! It's an odd duck as far as genre and even emotion. It starts off and sets up like an electronica track... slowly developing, integrating things a little at a time. Then when the melody comes in at around 0:45... I hate to say this but I was immediately reminded of a 70's track that I can't think of the name... with a wa-wa rhythmic thing and the strings carrying the melody. "Getting current" is a process that I went through, a process that never ends really... I still struggle with it (but not as much). All I can say is from my own experience... picking a listing with genereous deadline and writing TO the listing rather than trying to find listings for pre-existing songs was much easier (to me at least). Especially since my existing songs weren't current sounding. That approach doesn't appeal to everyone but as far as learning about genres, what's current and what's marketeable, etc... it's a great way to go. In general when writing now (for film/tv stuff) I try to think first "emotion", then genre but I try to make both easily identifiable. For example, a "mysterious electronica" track has an emotion and a genre and has a general use... crime dramas and things like that. So I'd suggest finding a listing or listings, key in on the emotion the listing is looking for and stay true to the genre that the listing is categorized under. Instant forward! (easier said than done) HTH,Dave

Dave: Again, I've learned a lot from your reply.. and thanks for that! In my current productions i'm applying what you told me in earlier thread and this 'composing TO the listing' is the next tip im going to test out But like you said, this track is an odd duck indeed and that's why I'm kind of lost where to pitch it. It's one of my older material and I have several other tracks collecting dust in my computer which follow's the same formula like "This strait path" and I'd like to find a 'home' for them... In another forum one listener suggested this as a therapy music for convicted criminals.. pump this music through their jail cell's newly installed "rehab inducing entertainment system" and boom, they become happy as a clam and twice as mellow.. haha! Jay: thank you! Maybe I just got to start work hard and spread it every possible place there is to think of
