Hey Dan,
This rocks! Love the sound of the guitars....clean, yet they have grit to them...nice work.
G might be on to something? I like the volume of the guitars, but maybe they could come down just a tad?
You must have fixed the bass, cause it sounds good to me.
What popped in my head while listening is this would be great for any commercial or scene where they want some swagger or
attitude, ya know....chrome and cross tattoos :D
One small nit....it has a good button ending, but it seems to need to breathe there a second? Maybe another second of reverb
ring out? Either way, it's good stuff Dan

Yeah, I think I turned up the guitars too much - especially the high frequencies. Turned them back down a little.

Steve, I know what you mean. The buttoned ending is too abrupt, but I don't know how to extend the reverb a second as you suggest. My temporary solution is to have a cymbal ring out.

Thanks for the feedback. Here is the new mix:

Hey Dan, a quick simple way to ring out a "last note"
Duplicate the track of the instrument that you want to emphasize the final note
Eliminate everything on the duplicated track but the final note
Put a longer reverb on the duplicated track
Find the right level between the two tracks on that final note so it feels seemless
Done

There are other ways as well, but this one is pretty simple...

(P.S. for me, the bass note at 1:00 should follow the guitar phrase/upbeat)

Hey Cass,

Thanks for that last note reverb solution. I think I got it:

However, I couldn't figure out what you meant about the bass part so I left it as is.

BLUES-INSPIRED INDIE ROCK INSTRUMENTAL

Post by DanLuedke » Wed Apr 16, 2014 12:38 pm

Thanks for asking, Steve! I was just wondering if it's worth submitting to this one..... or is it not "indie" enough? Kinda goes off in more of an AC/DC direction...

BLUES-INSPIRED INDIE ROCK INSTRUMENTALS are needed by well-connected and very busy Music Library for placements in Films and TV shows. They're on the hunt for original, Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumentals in the stylistic ballpark of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Hanni El Khatib, The Sheepdogs, etc. Give them gritty, Blues-inspired Songs that have a commercially appealing sound that's dripping with swagger. Your submissions need to sound like an authentic Indie band, not a MIDI-driven studio project. Straight up, guitar centric Blues will NOT work for this one. They want Instrumentals with a "you-talkin'-to-me?" vibe, packed with a current Indie Rock attitude. Do NOT copy or rip off the referenced artists in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a guide for tempo, texture, and tone. This Music Library offers a NON-EXCLUSIVE 50/50 split deal. You'll split all sync fees 50/50, and keep 100% of the Writer's share. The Library gets 100% of the Publishing. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine). You must own or control 100% of your Master and Copyright. Please submit one to three Songs online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis - No full critiques. Submissions must be received no later than Thursday, April 17, 2014.

Yea, that's the one I was thinking too. If you got the 5'er, I'd go ahead, but mind you I worked up a couple for this, posted one up and the general consensus was "not indie enough"....so, grain of salt and all!

Steve,

I'll probably go ahead and submit. I went looking for your thread to see if I could inform my decision but didn't find anything.
