Which chorus is better? (country)
Here's an easy one for you. Just tell us:1. Which chorus is your personal favorite (chor1 or chor2)?2. Which chorus do you think is closest to what today's mainstream country radio artists want (chor1 or chor2)?http://marcblackwellmusic.com/marc_mp3/ ... chorus.mp3 If you want to go farther, we are always ready to learn, tell us:3. How can we get more chorus lift for that chorus? Do we need to re-write it (lyric?, melody?, chords?) or do we only need a different vocal performance/styling or different production? Thanks,Dean and MarcPS Thanks to Devin (banjo) and Stephen (guitar) for contributing some great tracks.

hey dean!first, nothing is easy for me..2nd, i do not hear much of a difference in anything i punch up there to listen to, did it twice, listen like 4 times...what the hell am i missing????do like the tune though--would LOVE to hear the banjo up front more, can hardly hear it...BTW, what the hell is a "catman jones two step swing?", or whatever it says....can't make it out after 4 listens...and if it's an inside thing, it's too inside...but again, i do like the tune allot!sorry, maybe my ears are off after just 2 beers (honest to god...) and a rare 49ers WIN....the best, warren

NOT 12. NOT 1 2as in too.but damn, even on chorus 2 it needs that harmony to carry on thru the whole part - and maybe even an additional part ... it's right there, stick it in!btw ... it still tickles me to hear stephen playing these country lines ... never thought I'd rue the day ...
Gave up guilt when I left the ol' school girl uniform behind. You know, cute little skirts and knee socks, nuns and rulers and all that.

cj, idea, thanks a lot for sharing your opinions with us.warren, thanks for trying. lol there are 2 chorus' in the snippet. chor1 follows v1, chor2 follows v2. same lyric, but musically they are different. which do you like better? .... 'cotton eyed joe, 2 step, and swing' .. maybe beating Favre is like having another 6 beers?Dean

hmm...i can't tell much difference, either. seems like, though, since you're asking, the chorus could have more lift to it and more contrast in melodic line. don't know if that makes sense or not or if i'm even using the right terminology. anyhoo... yeah.

Re: Which chorus is better? (country)
Hi Dean,I don't hear a huge difference either, but I prefer chorus one myself. I actually thought banjo didn't really fit the rock style of the song... so how's that for getting a variety of opinions?I really liked the guitar work. Wish I had someone like that living next door. I must be getting old. I used to hope for an attractive divorcee who was into nude sunbathing. The chorus needs something, but I'm not sure what. A lift of some kind, but if I were any good at that I wouldn't have a bunch of A A A A songs myself. Verses are fine as is.In a couple of places it sound more like old rock and roll (Stones?) than country to me, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I like it.Cam

hey dean--of course i know which one the second chorus is...just didn't hear much of a difference, did hear the harmony, but thought it was just a bit more of a build on the first chorus--just wasn't distinctive to my ears...still would love to hear more of the banjo in the mix though...all the best,wh

Re: Which chorus is better? (country)
momof, thanks. your terminology is fine. we understand.cam, thanks. that guitarist is good, who is that guy? i keep thinking that our songwriting is fine on the chorus, but there is some trick to getting more lift out of the vocal or the production that we haven't hit on yet, but I'm not sure. seems like a big chorus in my head and marc has gotten more lift in this draft than he did in his first draft. hey, there seems to be a lot of rock on country radio these days, so .....warren, thanks. i wasn't being condescending. i thought maybe you were looking for 2 different recordings with different chorus' in each. thanks for the opinion.fyi, i kinda like chor1 best. marc, kinda likes chor2 better. and the voting is close so far. i guess chor2 is a little bit ahead right now. in my opinion, chor1 has more hook and more lift, but chor2 has more melodic variation.Dean

Re: Which chorus is better? (country)
The chorus is still needing that lift guys. Like I suggested from day ONE, more background vocals in the chorus would do the job. Oooohs. Aaaahs. Etc. They do wonders. Pan them and sweep them. Fill in the voids, bring up the dynamics. Done deal. But its a cool song none the less and again, I'm just glad to have a part in it.
