Which Plugin to get Cheesy 80s pop sound

Post by DorothyWallace » Fri Aug 02, 2013 6:30 am

For my musician friends who use Logic Pro, can anyone tell me how to get a cheesy pop keyboard sound from the 80s like in the song Mickey by Toni Basil? I have all the plug-ins ES1, ES2, etc. and I've been listening for hours to different cheesy sounds, but I cannot seem to find the cheesy sound I want. Thanks!

the one there is a nice cheesy organ.

the closest using the stock logic plugins is to to go the EVB3 (tonewheel organ).

then in the preset menu for the plugin > 05 other simulations > Cheesy Organs

its fairly close but will need a little tweaking if you want a total sound alike. but I am not the organ tweak wizard so maybe somebody can chime in.

Hope that helps.

Hello fellow Taxi member!
This is my first official post... Yayyyy! To answer your question months later, the Korg Legacy Collection vst is fantastic for official 80s sound. Other great ones: the Arturia CS-80V, Jupiter 8V, Modular V and other Arturia offerings. Lastly, Native Instruments FM8 has some nice 80s authenticity.

Google up the free VSTs Combo V (Vox) and Combo F (Farfisa) you'll need to run them through a decent amp sim, if you want maximum cheese/authenticity. In Logic, you might need a VST wrapper....I think the organ on Mickey is a Vox, but don't quote me. 8-)

80's cheese that sounds good is the ppg wave. The cheaper package is the waldorf edition for $59 euros, there is a more expensive one for $169 euros.
