Who finds sit in musicians for shows?
I am a harmonica player and I have played with some bigger names but every big show I have played has been by random meeting. Who would I get a demo to to get in on guest appearances with bands. I am not looking to be IN a band. I just want to play some songs with certain performers that I know would be a great fit. Any advice on this would be great. I am a graduate of the musicians institute and can keep up on the big stage, I just need to know who to talk to. Thanks for the help.

Hey harpincoop , Think about things in reverseI would try go to a booking agent, Local Studios (session work turn into gigs), event director of a big name entertainment venue . Verizon Center, Staple Center, "well known Live theater" The Apollo Theater, etc... all well known local places, your local club scene that books acts. You see, what I'm getting at is, if you cant' find a single person then go to the end user (the place where they/you'll be performing at) these places have people who have probably seen agents, managers or band leaders in a mad dash to find a replacement musician, and the odds are in your favor that they have a relation with some of them.I am not a performing musician, but if I had to do this on my own, this is what I would do... http://www.afm.org/news/american-federa ... n.com/Good luckBB

Go to lots of jams, get to know people, pass out your card everywhere, get friendly with music stores and hang out there, but NOT on weekends, network like crazy. Put a Myspace together and let everybody know you're available for fill-ins. People hire folks they know, so get to know bunches of musicians.

Re: Who finds sit in musicians for shows?
I have always played with pickups, hired guns. I once had the bass player from the Doobie Brothers, the drummer from Bonnie Raitt, and the keyboardist from Lacy J Dalton. They made me sound fabulous and were a joy to work with. The key is to make a 'Roadkill' List and keep it current and find ways to hire the players that are not on the road. Players like to play. Go to the Jams, find a studio that needs some harp work. A friend of mine used to sit in his car in front of the studio with his drum kit ready. He would get many a session as a pickup. When a gig comes up just start going down the list. A lot of players have their favorites also and will try to get them hired. You will get known as someone who hires. I had a guy from Nashville drive up in his bus cause he heard I hired bass players. I did, then he moved on.

Thank you all so much for the advice. I just don't want to end up down the road with a skill to play harp and nothing to show for it. BTW if anyone is looking for a harp player I'm obviously available.ThanksCoop
