Do all non-exclusive retitle libraries really send their music to the same people? I have heard of this being a common complaint. But is the licensing world that small where MusicSupe X gets a hard drive full of music from libraries A to Z?

The mentioned library offered the following: “I offer a solution: You don’t need to rule out all non-exclusive libraries, you just need to rule out all but one.”

Choosing one non-exclusive library to work with makes sense for blanket placements. I really do not see the practical advantage of a Music Supe working with more than one non-exclusive anyway.

Yes, I hear it's common and hence the concern and frustration of music sups and TV production companies who have to keep expenses under tight control. Good question. It's much better to ask good questions when you don't know things than to make blanket statements with inaccurate and somewhat sensationalist words:

I disagree with you. I made no blanket statement. I said nothing inaccurate. I see no sensationalism in my post title.

Where is that PM?

My take on this subject is that we can only directly change/control ourselves = our music (in context)
There is no doubt that they need our EXCELLENT music. Good music is consumed - Great music is remembered

(IMHO) As a composer, (in general) we benefit from the standard non-exclusive deals but i believe the end user (music supes) benefit more from the exclusive deals.
So if we want to become successful we need to see the future and head that way! I believe that after all is said and done, a majority of the bigger libraries will head exclusive.
I have started working on my songs with a library in mind, whether i have an exclusive or non exclusive i am treating them as exclusive so if they open an exclusive (as a few of my libraries have), i will be able to more all my other tracks to the the exclusive collection.

just my 2 cents :D
Steve

Been a while since we heard any news on the discussion. Are the exclusive libraries better? Worse? The same?
