Please note that I am a part time musician/songwriter. I had a 8 year old mac pro with Pro Tools LE8 prior to this, I was able to make a decent recording but most of it was way over my head. I just can't afford to upgrade to another Apple Computer and pro tools. I will also be using the computer for the internet, e-mail, Microsoft Office, photos, and itunes. and recording music As far as software I probably will be going with a simple program like Mixcraft 7, the interface will be focusrite Scarlett 18i20. When I record it is usually just my guitar and vocal, there are times when I might do a third track with lead or bass along with a vocal and some background vocals.
Will this computer work for me? Is there anything else I need? Is there any questions I should ask? I know there's a lot here below but I would appreciate all who responds. Cost of desktop computer $480.00 Thanks!

If Mixcraft is 64-bit (I haven't checked) you should be good to go, with the gear mentioned, plus the microphones I assume you're using, already, but you might be just as well off with a refurbished Mac Mini, depending on your video monitor situation. If you're already comfortable with Microsoft hardware and OS, you can ignore that last bit.

Tomyco,
Did I read that right that you're considering buying a brand new quad core desktop computer for $480. I would bet that it will definitely NOT work because the price doesn't add up. What's the detail that I'm missing?
If you're considering buying a used computer on Craigslist or Ebay, I think that's a great idea. I've done it twice, buying Mac Pros for around $1100. Post details here and I'm happy to dig deeper on the specs. Where are you buying? What brand computer?
All the best,
Joe

Re: Will This computer work for me?
Hi I am down to Studio one, the audiobox (included) with two inputs and the computer. (32 meg ram helps) Works great with simple work flow. I play my own guitars and sing. Check out my stuff and try to fault it. ha ha
Good luck
