Work-for-hire / custom composing PRICING
Hi all,I was approached earlier today to create a custom 80's rock track for a media company with a statewide (at least) car insurance client. The length is 1:15 and the turnaround is about 21 days.I am looking for help in setting my price, assuming the following conditions:- Only one final version, no alternates- Client maintains exclusive rights over the track- I am recording everything in my home studio, no session musicians or studio fees to payThanks all!Damian

More important is the region of use and the length of the usage. If they're buying it in perpetuity, that would make it more expensive than if they're buying it for a set period of time and only regional usage. You may want to try to stipulate that so if this thing blows up and goes national, you can at least get a "bump". Remember, your music is their audio "logo" for the time that they're using it. That's worth a lot, particularly if they use it for a long time and it becomes associated with them (remember "You Deserve A Break Today"?)At the very least, make sure to get a cue sheet filed with your PRO.What's their advertising budget?How much do you feel comfortable charging? 1500, 5000, 10,000?If you don't get your asking price, what is your bottom line?At what point would you walk away from the deal?How long would it take you do produce the tracks, including at least one re-write or re-work? How much would you charge per hour if someone approached you to work that way?Answers to these questions may help you determine what to charge.HTH, and good luck!Mazz
