Would you submit this? Am I in the ball park?

Post by PeterD » Mon Dec 17, 2012 1:35 pm

Hello "professional ears!!"

I really want to submit my, "Morning Dew" (not morning dew instr.) to this listing:

RELAXING NEW AGE INSTRUMENTALS in the style of Vangelis, Andreas Vollenweider, Oliver Shanti, Michael Gettel, Back To Earth, etc., needed by a Producer creating a compilation of relaxing music for a Hotel Company. QUOTING THE SOURCE: "I'm looking for melodic instrumentals with NO heavy drums or disturbing effects. Instrumentals should be suitable for a relaxing environment, so please don't submit anything too complicated. Main instruments should be acoustic guitar or piano. Not looking for solo arrangements. Soft pan flutes or soft saxophones could work, but no violins or trumpets." He wants SMOOTH, FLOWING, and MELODIC pieces. AVOID thin, dated synth sounds. Keep your sounds RICH and CURRENT. Instrumental presentation must be top-notch! Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine). Their deal is a non-exclusive license along with mechanical royalties paid per unit sold. Please submit one to three instrumentals online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Monday, December 17, 2012. TAXI #S121217NA

I'm a little worried about my piano sound (it's the best I have) and the perc track though ... Do you think they are a deal breaker?

Your opinion is ALWAYS appreciated!!!
Thanks for listening!

Hey I enjoyed that, especially after the rest of the instrumentation comes in at 0:32.

Certainly a little late for you to fix anything since the listing has since closed, but the only issues I found was that the soloing piano from the start thru 0:32 sounds a little harsh in the attacks. I also heard a lot of "tape hiss" during the silent parts of the track at the beginning and the end - not sure what's causing that (maybe one of your VST instruments?).

Anyway, loved the track with the full instrumentation going on - a definite contender. Good luck!

Thanks Rich!

Yeh, I think a better piano sound would have made a difference in how I feel about it too. Oh well ... I PROMISE to get a better one if it gets licensed!!!! haha
Not sure about the hiss. Hope its just an mp3 thing and not on the wave file? Hmmm ...

Dice are rolled, and fingers are crossed!!
Thanks again for listening! Appreciate it!

I had a listen and liked it very much. I have had similar questions in my mind before sending a piece. Your piece sounds
like, in my opinion, good enough to at least spend the 5 bucks to find out. The percussion is soft enough in my
opinion. I was going to try this listing myself and I was not going to put any percussion at all out of fear of a return. Strangely, I got burnt out and didn't submit
either. Kids, work, deadlines. Oh, well. Next time I guess.
Keep up the good work. Good luck!

I enjoyed your composition. The only tune I have that I'd have considered submitting to the listing in question is a tune I wrote called Komodo Requiem.

www.taxi.com/nickkepics - 'Komodo Requiem'

All of the instruments are real and live. I played nylon string guitar (solo and chords); all of the piano work is by Tim McDonald, who played all of the piano tracks on my CD Rounding The Bend. The percussionist is Leon Alexander (mainly cymbals) and is very light, soft and airy, relegated primarily to the background. The bassist is Terry Burrell who played electric bass on this track and upright for some of the others. Terry and Leon are also both featured on Rounding The Bend.

I don't know how it would have been rated by the Taxi reviewers but I'd have felt okay in submitting it. My favorite part of the tune is the piano solo starting around 1:51, right after my guitar solo. I think Tim outdid himself and took the tune to places I hadn't even imagined were possible.

Here is a link to the Lead Sheet we used in the studio when we recorded it. All of the melodies were improvised right on the spot using the chords only as a canvas on which to paint.

Hope that helps?

Thanks magic and felon!!

For listening and your feedback!!! The good news is it was forwarded (YAY!!!!) But like a few others where nothing ever materialized, I'm not exactly jumping around. haha

Felon, I liked your Komodo Requiem (nice melodies, and production), but feel it's more Jazz than New Age? You should definitely think about sending to one of the light Jazz listings!!

I guess we just keep plugging ... ?? (sigh!!)
One of these days, the planets will line up

Thanks again guys!!
